CHAPTER TEN :
TIFFANY'S POINT OF VIEW
HOW YAH DAY GOING? ☀️ LAST CHAPTER WAS A BIT SHORT... SORRY FOR THAT BUT THIS ONE IS GONNA BE LITTLE BIT LONGER 🤪 ENJOYThe cotton candy skies glow above me as I walk into the warm breeze, police station behind me and the city in front of me. Miles and rakim walk down the steps of the station- next to me. "Why the fuck would they think I'd be involved in Isiah's death? That makes no sense." The words slur out of my mouth.
Rakim doesn't say anything and neither does miles the both just continue to walk down the steps to the car sitting on the curb in front of us. Miles jumps into the drivers seat of my car and rakim sits into the passenger seat next to him. "guess I have the whole backseat to myself." I whisper.
Miles starts the car and at that moment I start to think about jahseh. yesterday when we were talking I remember that he was about to tell me something, sounded important- but his mom interrupted and he never got to tell me what he was going to say.
A bunch of unanswered questions fill my mind up until it feels as if my mind is overfilled with so many questions, one after the other, that it seems as if my mind can just blow up like a ballon. I lean my head against the window and watch the people outside the car in the outside world living life.
Kids running around, parents on the phone probably spilling some tea, and couples. I quickly turn away when I see a couple walking down the sidewalk holding hands and smiling. I see miles look through prismatic rear view "hey tiff you okay?"
I quickly nod my head and rest on the window again. The rest of the drive is silent. No one says a word to each other. Everyone is just in their thoughts. Drifting on thought clouds.
As we approach the house again I see an unfamiliar car parked outside the front of my house. "Now who the fuck might this be ?" Rakim speaks suddenly. "I don't know probably someone just parking there and visiting someone next door. "Nah there's plenty of parking spaces on this block why would they choose that one?" Miles questions.
"I don't know let's find out." I leap out of the car and sprint to my doorstep to find a group of people walking around the house and a police officer escorting them. "Um hello can I help you with something?" I say with a confused look on my face. "Oh hello we we're actually looking for you." A short white woman says walking to the front of the crowd. "We just wanted to let you know that now since this is a crime scene we're going to have to further investigate this overdose of illegal drugs. So until further notice your going to have to stay off the premises." She says with an apologetic look on her face.
My face goes blank for a couple moments "but I live here how does that make sense, can't you investigate still I won't be in your way"
One of the men standing in the back of the group shakes his head "no can do this premises has to be completely empty of people in the unit due to the use of illegal drugs we have to investigate further in order to do that nobody can be on the property, I apologize for this inconvenience"
"But I ain't go nowhere to go, I have family coming over and I need this place open you can't do this, there's no place else I can put them. I don't have any money"
"Yes we understand but I'm sure you'll find a way. Have a nice day ma'am."
The group of people start to walk away, chattering. Probably about what just happened. Miles and rakim come out of the car and run towards me. I slump onto the doorstep and rest my face into my hands. "Yo what just happened?" Says miles.
"Them white folks just told me that the house is "off limits" to me since it's a crime scene they have to investigate further without any people on the premises." I roll my eyes and lift myself up to face the both of them.
"Oh shit what are you gon do with your family?" Rakim gasps. I shrug "I don't know I don't have any money and any other place for them to stay. God this is a whole disaster."
Rakim pouts "I got you Tiffany. I'll get you a few hotel rooms and ya'll can stay there until your house is open to you again." My eyes widen "no no that's way too much for you it's okay I'll find another way"
"Nah tiff there ain't no other way I got you it's okay let me help you please."
Miles rolls his eyes for some unknown reason and turns to face the car. "Uh are you sure?" I ask. "Positive" I smile and wrap my arms around him. He hugs me back and I can hear his light laugher "it's good to have you back Rakim" my voice sounds inaudible but he can still hear me anyways "it's good to be back"
I let go of him and run after miles who's walking towards my car. "Where you going big guy?" I lightly push him. He doesn't say anything he just keeps walking "what's up with you miles?"
"Nothing I'm fine im just pretty tired. Any chance you can drop me off at the hotel I planned on staying at it's only like 5 minutes away from here."
I nod my head "of course" Rakim walks toward me "hey imma bounce I gotta head back to my house but I'll catch you guys another time we'll link right?" He asks with a half smirk on his face "yes we'll definitely link" I answer heading over to the drivers seat. "Alright bye tiff. Imma call you later with the plans about the hotel and everything. See yah miles" they both dab each other up. I watch as Rakim walks over to his car and drives away.
I forget for a moment that I'm also supposed to be starting up the car and heading to my destination. The car is too silent and I see that miles is not really in the mood to talk so I turn up the radio.
And old song that we use to turn up to as kids comes on and see that miles is starting to sing along and do all the funny dance moves we use to do. I join him one hand on the wheel and one doing all the dance moves. We both laugh "oh my god it's been a long ass time since I've last heard that song"
Miles says out of breath from laughing. "I know oh my god I miss our childhood. We we're so innocent and just enjoying life, not having a care or worry in the world." "I know there's a whole lot we gotta take care of now. Bills, crazy ass bitches, baby mamas, hormones, survival".
I pull up to the hotel "I know it's crazy" he exits the car just as I pull up to the entrance/ drop off area. He doesn't move he just turns to me "thanks tiff. I know that's your handling a lot right now and theres probably a ton of things on your mind. One situation after the other just hitting you. Isiah beating you, jahseh getting shot, All of your old childhood friends showing up, me being alive, isiah being dead. It's all a lot to take in even for me
But your handling it really well. Just know that if you need anything call me okay, I'm here if you need to talk or if you need help, you don't gotta go through all of this alone I got you" he puts a hand on my shoulder, But instead I just pull him in for a hug "thank you that means a lot coming from you."
He nods his head. We hug for a few moments and then let go. "I'll call you if I need anything" I say as he gets out of the car "okay drive safe, we don't want another one ending up in the hospital"
I laugh lightly "I will." He shuts the door and waves goodbye as I drive off.
