Prologue
Number 13 Star St, Dark Fall was the smallest house on the street. The weatherboards needed a new coat of paint and the weather vane was swinging wildly as if it was about to fall. If you listened closely you would be able to hear the constant drone of the weatherman –
‘Today it was cloudy…tomorrow it will be cloudy with a chance of showers…it will stay that way for the rest of the week…’
In the next room Mr. and Mrs. Light were talking in hushed whispers so they wouldn’t wake the small child that was sleeping in a small crib next to them. Another child who looked about 5 years old sat quietly playing on the floor next them. Everything was quiet until there was a sharp knock at the door. Rushing towards the door Mr. Light looked through the little hole to see on the other side his wife’s mother and her daughter’s usual baby sitter, Molly. Molly was a small woman who was in her late 60’s; she was dressed elegantly in a dress suit that looked like it should be reserved for formal occasions only. Mr. Light let her in and she walked over and sat down in the large armchair beside the sleeping child’s crib.
‘Mum are you sure you’ll be alright with Angel’ Asked Mrs. Light
‘We’ll be fine’ Laughed Molly
‘You worry too much, I’m glad you’re going out tonight’. Molly stated pulling a bag of sweets out of her bag and handing them to the little boy at her feet. He looked up at her with a huge smile on his face and was about to speak when his mother cut him off.
‘Alex is going to his friend Blake’s house next door so Mr. and Mrs. Smith will look after him so it’s just you and Angel’ Mrs. Light stated in a tired tone. Molly only looked at her and laughed.
‘I’ll be fine now go and have fun’ She ordered.
A few minutes of fussing and worrying later Mr. and Mrs. Light left dragging Alex with them and hurrying off into the night leaving Molly alone with Angel, and soon both of them were fast asleep.
Angel slowly woke up and looked around. Slowly sitting up she rubbed sleep out of her eyes. Seeing that her parents and James where gone and replaced by Grandma, who was asleep by the fire, which was now barley alight and only giving off a flicker of light. But somehow the room was still fully lit up. There was something or someone else in the room. It was a very bright figure, a silhouette of light.
Angel stared up at the light in awe. The creature turned its head and suddenly in one swift movement the figure picked Angel up and disappeared leaving the room in almost complete darkness once again.
A few hours later it returned and this time careful not to wake Molly it took her as well. At the same time a wave of darkness washed over the town. Angel and Molly had just escaped a terrible fate. But when they returned, if they returned, they would return to a world that wouldn’t be the same for many years.
13 years later…
