"You sure you don't wanna come?"

"Nah. I'm good"

Here I am inside my room studying and marking my book for the finals, which is really next week but I just want to do things ahead of time since I've grown up to it. And here is my best friend, Jaimee who keeps on pleading me that I should go with her to a certain party.

"God, Amber would you please stop doing that?" She turned to face me after fixing herself in front of the mirror. She's wearing this low cut top which I am sure would attract some stranger to take her home. Don't forget to add her red miniskirt.

"Stop doing what?" I asked, barely looking up from my book.

"That thing."

"What thing?" I asked again, looking up to her since I am sitting on my bed.

"That 'studying-like-there's-no-tomorrow' thing." She quoted on the air with hand gestures like it pained her to actually picture herself doing what I'm doing.

"I don't see what's the problem with studying ahead of time." I really don't know why she got so upset when I do this thing. It's like she hasn't been with me for the past 8 years. I think it's because she's such a big procrastinator.

"Hey, you gotta get a life you know." She said while applying another coat of lipgloss on her pale lips that I think is her fifth coat.

"But I have a life."

"Ugh. I don't mean it that way. Why do you take everyhing so literally? Amber, you're 17. You gotta have some fun!"

"I am having fun! What am I supposed to be doing right now? Partying up all night with strangers and finding someone to hook up with?" I don't even understand why she enjoys this thing. We've been friends for a long time, but we're the total opposite. Jaimee's more of the outgoing type who have lots of friends and enjoys staying late getting wasted, while I'm the one who...well you could guess what.

"So that's your definition of parties? Gosh, I'm not telling you to find someone to hook up with. Duh, Dylan would obviously kill me if I ever asked you to do that." She raised an eyebrow like it was an obvious statement. People won't actually believe me if I told them that I have a boyfriend. I guess it's because of my appearance. Okay wait, I am not ugly. I think it's because of the way I dress, since I'm the kind of girl who's perfectly okay with a shirt and jeans. And maybe because of my glasses, too. Well, it doesn't make me much of a nerd because I know I am not one.

"Wow, I'm surprised you know what he would do. You might want to go right now before you get late." I don't think parties have such things as late since you'll probably going home 'late' than you'll gonna go there 'late'.

"So I still haven't convinced you to come with me?" I thought she's already done with this and saw that it's obvious that I don't wanna come.

"And how am I supposed to come with you? You just said that I'm 17. Don't they actually check what age are you? What do I have to do? Get a fake ID?"

"Those things are for bars! Amber. You're in America now. This. Is. A. Party. I am not taking you to some place where you have to falsify your age!" She put her hand on her head like talking to me is actually giving her a headache.

"You know parties aren't my thing or being around so many people I don't even know."

"Oh gosh, where did you even grow up? In a ranch in Kansas?"

"Are there ranches in Kansas?"

"Fuck, whatever. Why are you so afraid of socializing with people?"

"I am not afraid of socializing! I just don't like being around with all these people. And besides, I'm studying for finals which is what you should also be doing."

"Ugh. You're making me sick. And please, would you stop lecturing me about studying?"

"Why the hell are we even arguing with this thing? As I said, you should probably get going." I went back to highlighting all the important stuff in my book and pretended that she's not in front of me.

"You know what? Just go with me tonight and I won't be bugging you anymore about this stuff." She promised with her hand raised as if she was taking an oath.

Like she could really convince me into that.

"Nope." I turned my back at her.

"Please?" She sat down on the bed.

"No."

"Please please please."

"Stop that. I'm trying to focus here." I said scooting away from her.

"I would buy you your favorite cake from that damn cake shop and take you to that, what do you call that? Oh whatever, I'll take you to that shitty amusement park you've always been bugging me about. Just come with me!" My eyes suddenly lit up because I really want to go to that amusement park but no one just wants to come with me. Pretty sucks.

"You mean it?" I faced her.

"You know I mean everything I say, right?"

I took a deep breath and blurted out "Fine. But you should stick to your promise, okay? Or you know I won't talk to you for the rest of my life."

"I keep my promises Amber. I think I'm the only person that you know who keeps their promise. And hey, I know even though you'll get mad at me you probably can't keep that 'no speaking' terms with me." She's right, even though I get mad at her, I'd still talk to her at the end of the day. I guess that's because I've been friends with her longer than anyone.

"So what now?" I asked, standing up from my bed.

"Let me just fix you, and we're off. Finally, you're going to get some real fun!"
