Local Flavour by mmmartin10 - https://my.w.tt/OfQDxfPFGO
Lucy McLean's confidence is shattered when she arrives back in her tiny hometown to help her parents out with their failing restaurant. She's been dumped / fired by her fiancé / boss and is desperate to get back to Toronto and win him back. Little does she know she has more than a broken heart to contend with. Hothead celebrity chef Quinn Allen's in town and the family dinner is taking part in his national restaurant TV contest. Looking more like a bouncer than a chef, Quinn's got the local gals in a tizzy with his charm and sexy good looks. Distracted and distraught, Lucy finds the know-it-all chef infuriating, and he finds her equally unnerving. The sexy hometown girl embraces the contest and slowly gets back on her feet, but dark secrets threaten to destroy it all. Will she win, or lose everything?

Review by Stephanie_Kazowz
I read this one a few months ago.
What I liked:
I liked the effort put into world building
The use of reality tv show nonsense (I love that Unreal show)
The main character's relationships outside of Quinn and her relationship with her own town.
Lucy is such a developed character that she has personal skills that allow her and Quinn to intertwine their lives in more than just a romantic way. It's a touch of realism that a lot of romance novels don't achieve.
How real the development of their relationship felt. No instalove here
The writing is on point. She has a great handle on prose, just needs someone to wrangle the length.
What I didn't like:
Repetitive- They have cyclical arguments, that while realistic, drag down the pacing. I don't know if it's my comedy background or what, but a rule of three works for me. If they're going to have the same fight reinvent it a bit so you can see how they are related to the same core issue, but make it new and unique. I just felt like I was reading the same few chapters over and over. Editing would be very helpful.
No sex. I may enjoy hate watching hallmark movies, but I do like a more steamy read. I suggested this one to cover our bases because technically this is in the romance world and writing is good. Also, I know you dirty birds will have the sex covered. lol
Dropping the ball on the plus size/differently shaped mc. I don't like the justification that plus size is better than skinny. I would've liked her shape/size being described without that positive/negative judgment, you know? Like she's thick and moving on. Not saying she can't have moments of insecurity or there are jerk side characters, but I'd rather see a thick girl that can run then a thick girl lose the thighs to running. Thick girls run.Side note- I was really intrigued by the sister and her failing marriage. I will probably read the next book. I have to know endings. It also seemed like a more complicated/interesting story
