The monster was walking down the dark streets, completely alone. Ready to end everything.

It was cold, raining and almost midnight. He knew if he wanted to be free, he needed to end it. Right here, right now.

He walked up the cold stoned stairs to the top of a skyscraper. His face showed no emotion while his heart was beating rapidly. As he reached the top, he opened the metal door and closed it behind him. Rain was pouring on him, soaking his clothes. Cold wind was enveloping him and he stepped on the edge of the roof, looking down.

The streets of New York were still full of people with umbrellas, cars and buses.

He closed his eyes, breathes in and out. "Now or never", he whispered while opening his eyes again.

"Don't jump!" A soft female voice echoes in his head. He doesn't dare to turn around, swallowing hard. "Please." He heard footsteps coming closer. His hair was stuck to his forehead and his hands clenched into fists, his nails digging into the palms of his hands. "Don't come closer!" Only then, he dared to turn around and look the young woman in the eyes, his sight getting blurry. "Let me help you." Rain was dripping from the girls face as she desperately looked at him. "You're stronger than that." He shook his head in frustration. "I tried to be, but I'm not." He turned around again, this time ready to jump. "No!" Two hands wrapped around his torso, pulling him back from the edge of the roof. "I promise I'll try to help you." She hugged him tight and he noticed that she started crying.

Did she really care?
