Ebony's POV- Chapter 4

I couldn't contain my yawn, as I was writing my Psychology paper that was on another boring topic to further fuel my hatred for this class. Psychology drives me nuts to the point where I will need a psychologist afterwards to help me sort out my issues for this class and the sexist pig that is a poor excuse for an educator. I drop my face into the notebook on my bed exasperated. I had an earlier shift today and I'm worn out and laying on my stomach is not helping, but I really need to finish this paper before my date tomorrow. I lift up my head and pause, smiling to myself thinking about the mysterious guy and our date. Yes, I realized not too long after he left that I had yet to ask him his name like an idiot. I mean who practically gets in a situation like yesterday and agrees to go on a date with a guy, but doesn't ask the guy his name?! Ugh! Is there an end to my humiliation?

As I continue to contemplate my failures in life, Em walks into my room bringing snacks. Emily is also in college with me, but she is going for a degree in art. We hang out a lot doing homework on our early days so we can help each other out occasionally. Really, we just wanna hang out, but we try to make these 'study sessions' as productive as possible. She knows I do better when l've got brain fuel as I get really hungry when I study or do any kind of school work, but I dont like getting up a lot especially when I'm focused and in the zone.

She hands me a fruit punch Snapple (my absolute favorite) and a bag of trail mix before sitting at her spot at my desk. "Thanks! How is your painting going?"

She shrugs before giving me a smirk, "I think I've got a muse now which has successfully fueled my inspiration."

"Oh really?" I wiggle my eyebrows at her "and could this muse be a pair of fine blue eyes and blonde locks?" I giggle waiting for her to flick me.

Sure enough, I didn't have to wait long before she leaned over and I felt that flick on my nose. "As if it could be anyone else" she laughs with me as I see my friend truly happy about this Eric guy.

After yesterday's shift, we talked in the parking lot for a bit before going our separate ways. She told me all about the nervous blonde guy, Eric Frost, who caught her attention and asked her out. At least she was smart enough to get his name. I then told her about my run in with the guy and what happened by the bathrooms and oh my gosh, that girl would not stop squealing! She was jumping up and down in the parking lot shouting how I got game. I couldn't help the fit of giggles I fell in and she soon joined me with her own.

In high school, we both chose not to date because boys were overrated and we wanted something serious that potentially would last. Most of our peers thought we were nuts and far from the typical hormonal teenage stereotypes so they sought to further isolate us, but Maggie and Matthew and Em's parents were on board with our decisions. Em has dated one guy in college since then, but it only lasted three months before she caught the guy cheating on her with Aubrey Daniels, Jen's snobby best friend.

I purposely tried to avoid guys as much as possible. Part of me just really wanted to focus on school while the other part of me secretly was afraid that I'd end up with someone like my dad. I cannot and will not allow myself to be in that situation again. For the longest time I didn't have a choice, but now I do and I definitely don't take it lightly. The guy that I'm going on the date with tomorrow, does not give me the feeling that he is like that. He is too sweet and considerate to be like that. Speak of the devil, my phone chooses that moment to go off and I just know in the pit of my stomach that it's him without having to look at the screen and I can't help the huge smile on my face. Just that thought is enough to give me goosebumps and those crazy tingles all over my body.

I open the text, carefully reading his message. "Ebony, it occurred to me that yesterday I never properly introduced myself and I accept the blame entirely. Please accept my apology. My name is Rowan Michaels and it is my pleasure to officially meet you. I hope you are excited for our date tomorrow. I know I am, seeing as I haven't really been able to think of anything else but your charming beauty since meeting you. Be ready by 11:30 and have an appetite. Until tomorrow, sweetheart (;"

I feel my cheeks become rosy at his use of sweetheart and his chivalrous nature for accepting the blame which could easily be argued that it was really my fault instead. I text back after a moment of contemplating what I wanted to say, "It's not completely your fault, you know. I am just as much to blame as you if not more. I am excited for tomorrow and have thought of little else. Until tomorrow Rowan (:" I send it hoping that he is truly excited for tomorrow.

Em looks up from her painting, taking in my smile and flushed cheeks. "So, what does Mr. Right have to say?" she smiles back at me.

I hand her my phone to show her and I can tell that she is impressed that Rowan apologized even though she too told me that it was partially my own fault. Handing my phone back she grins in satisfaction before patting my check, "Awe! My baby girl is growing up!" And with that we both burst into a fit of giggles.

A knock at the door settled us down, but couldn't take the giddy smiles from our faces. "Come in" I manage to say before the door opened.

"Girls, I was just wondering if you would like some warm gooey chocolate chip cookies?" Maggie asks as she brings the tray of delicious smelling cookies to us.

"Of course Maggie! We'd have to be sick not to want them! Thank you" Em exclaims rather excited at the sugary treat.

"Oh get on with you girls! I'll leave the tray in here. Good luck with your homework!" Maggie says before kissing us both on the cheek then exiting the room, shutting the door behind her.

"So do you know what you're gonna wear yet?" Em turns to face me shoving a cookie in her face and I honestly don't know what to wear.

What should I wear? Do I dress up or stay casual? "What do you think I should wear?" I know she'll pick the perfect thing.

She gets up and walks to my closet searching for the right clothes.  Most of it is vintage inspired because I love the 20's to the 60's eras. Actually, if you wanna get technical just about everything I own is in that style. Em makes fun of me, but she knows I have good taste. "I've got it!" She exclaims rather excitedly. "This is the one! Classy and sweet, but casual enough to fit in anywhere!" Seeing my black and white dress in her hands, I knew it would be perfect with my brown belt and matching brown flats. "Wear your hair down and with curls to frame your face and wear your glasses tomorrow. Oh and don't forget that amazing vintage red lipstick! This way, he'll see the real you right off the bat."

I feel my excitement bursting as I give her a quick hug "Thank you for helping me! I wouldn't have known what to wear without you."

She giggles and returns my hug "That's what I'm here for" she winks before letting go and setting out my outfit for tomorrow. "Now let's finish our homework so we can paint our nails and watch a movie."

I let out a laugh before returning to my bed to finish my homework. I literally cannot wait till tomorrow!
