"Listen, I'll call you later."
Junhui was sat on Joshua's bed with his arms crossed and head slightly tilted down, listening to Joshua speak quietly into the phone. The room was dead silent, so he could faintly hear the voice from the other end of the phone, but it wasn't loud enough for him to hear the words clearly.
"I really can't talk right now, babe. I'm trying to help someone from my class, and I'm not trying to waste his time-" Joshua tried to continue to speak, but he stopped as he was cut off by the other person.
In those moments, Junhui felt something stab him in the heart. Joshua's soft voice, the way he talked to the person in general.. Especially the way he said the word babe. Junhui only wished that Joshua was talking to him. But he wasn't. He was talking to his girlfriend, someone who Junhui isn't, and can never be.
Joshua finally put his phone down on the sheets with a thud, sighing in obvious frustration. The book lying next to it was picked up, and opened for the first time in the past half hour. Joshua flipped through a few pages before before stopping, and scanning through one of them. He didn't continue before looking up at Junhui first.
"I'm sorry about that, Junhui.. Sometimes I feel like Minji really doesn't want me to do anything that doesn't involve her." Joshua said, and Junhui shook his head slightly.
"No, it's fine.. She's your girlfriend, so what can you do?" Junhui finished his sentence with a smile, which Joshua returned.
"Are you sure it's okay? I feel really bad that I just threw away thirty minutes of your time because of her." Joshua frowned, which made Junhui quickly disagree, not wanting Joshua to feel all that bad.
No, it really wasn't okay. But Junhui didn't want to be a jerk about Minji. He's met her, and besides being a bit overly clingy.. She was a good person. Not someone Junhui would be interested in..
Hell, Junhui hasn't been interested in a girl since the 2nd grade. And why did he like her? She offered him half of the gummies she brought for snack that day. But then things got real between her and Mingyu a week following. So that day on the playground, Junhui remembers that he actually teared up over it. Yeah..Whatever went on between her and Mingyu ended the day after.
He hasn't really liked anyone else, besides Joshua..He transferred from another school when he and Junhui were in the 7th grade. It wasn't everyday that a cute boy came walking into Junhui's boring 2nd period class. Especially in the middle of November.
It's been four years, though. They were now in their junior year, trying to survive until they became seniors. And currently, Junhui was struggling in math. Because of course, it's math. Math he's never gonna use in life ever again..
It wasn't like Junhui and Joshua were best friends, either. They couldn't be because their original friend group was split up into three different groups early in sophomore year. And Joshua and Junhui were separated a lot because of that. There was a big fight between three of them, and it caused a lot of damage to friendships. Junhui just found it to be a shame that the group that gave him the chance to speak to Joshua was also the thing that didn't allow them to talk a lot anymore.
Why they couldn't just make up, or just not make a big deal out of the 'groups,' Junhui would probably never understand. It was stupid to him.
"Okay, so look there." Joshua pointed down to a section in the book, turning to pick up his notebook and pencil.
Wait.. What were they doing again?
