A couple of week had passed since Adi had arrived, which meant a couple of weeks of Kukuri heading over to the vacant dorm room that Adi now lived in and planning how to get him back into his original body.
Adi was currently humming absentmindedly as he made some instant ramen for the two of them. Kukuri sat on the floor, deep in thought. They had agreed that the best first step would be to head into the city and try to find one of the other Klans, but that was risky. On the off chance that the other Klans had less-than-friendly relationship with the Colorless King, how would they explain themselves? Or what if they ran into a rogue Klansman?
Adi had heard a lot of stories of things other Klans had done while he was still somewhat invested in the outside world, and it didn't sit well with him. Corruption and Klan rivalries dominated the minds of several Kings he had heard of, driving them to become violent towards other Kings or even their own Klansmen.
They ate in silence for the most part. The trip to the city was happening today, and neither could stop thinking about it.
After finishing his meal, Adi finally spoke up, "I think you should stay here, Kukuri." He didn't miss the hurt expression on Kukuri's face as she looked up at him.
"But why?" she asked.
"I'm immortal, and you're not. If other Kings or Klansmen try to hurt me, they can't, but if you're with me..." he trailed off, setting his chopsticks down.
"But if it's just you, it's more suspicious!" Kukuri protested. "The other Kings wouldn't believe you! If I'm there, we'll have a lot more credibility. And maybe they'll go easy on you if you have a girl with you."
Adi just shook his head. "I want you to stay here." He knew better than to think that anybody would go easy on him under any circumstances. No, it was better if he went alone.
To his relief, Kukuri sighed and said, "Fine. I'll stay. But I won't like it."
"Thanks," Adi responded.
Their conversation ended there, and they sat in silence together until it was time to go. Actually, it was silent on their way to the train, too. Adi couldn't help feeling a bit guilty when he looked back and saw her look of betrayal, but then he pushed down that feeling. He'd feel a lot more guilty if she came along and got hurt.
When they reached the station, Kukuri finally spoke, "Be safe, okay?"
Adi smiled, "Of course. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine." Even though he was just as nervous as she was. Even though he was pretty sure he wouldn't leave the city unscathed, even if he was immortal.
The girl waved at him as he boarded the train. He stared down the entire ride, unable to keep his mind off the task ahead of him. He had to somehow track down a Klan. With how big the city looked from a distance, Adi was pretty sure he'd have one hell of a time trying to find anything there.

Only about ten minutes had passed in the city when somebody yelled "Bastard!" and dove at Adi, swinging a baseball bat.
Adi dodged just as the bat nearly made contact with his head. The other boy landed on a skateboard on Adi's other side, scowling.
He must have something against the Colorless King, Adi thought. The boy swung at him again and Adi dodged it. I need to talk to him.
"I'll kill you!" the boy cried. "I'll make you pay for why you did to Tatara!" The bat was swung again, but this time Adi didn't move quite fast enough. It hit him hard in the arm.
"Ow!" Adi yelped. "Wait! Let's talk!"
"I'm not talking to you!" the boy screamed, swinging the bat again. This time, Adi made sure to dodge. Then he made a break for it.
As he sprinting through the city, he could hear the boy screaming profanities and threats. Adi sighed. No matter what he tried, that kid would never listen to him. Whatever the Colorless King did must've been pretty bad to warrant such a reaction. He wondered who Tatara could be, and what exactly the Colorless King did to him.
As he turned into an alleyway, he dismissed those thoughts because the boy's voice was becoming louder behind him. He turned once more and...
That was a dead end. Quickly, he turned around to try to go somewhere else, but it was too late. The boy had already caught up.
"Gotcha," he growled, raising his bat. Adi's eyes widened as flames spread across the bat. So he is a Klansman.
"Wait, can't we talk?" Adi tried again.
The boy scoffed, "I have no intention of talking." He started to swing the bat. Adi readied himself to dodge. Both prepared to fight again.
Until a voice from behind them yelled, "Wait!"
Hey i did a thing. woa. Misaki is my favorite character and I will never do him justice.
