Chapter 1

Her life had always been black. From the moment she was born, her world was dark. She couldn't make out faces, she couldn't see colors. All her "friends" would brag about the world and the things they've done, and they'd forget she can't see it. Then, eventually, they'd forget about her.

From the age of six, she led a very solitary life. She spent most of her time either studying or working with instruments. When she was born, her biological parents thought she was a curse because she was blind. That night, they put her up for adoption. Her adoptive parents, Sarah and Jonathan Salazar, had been trying to have a girl. All of their pregnancies turned out to be boys, so they decided to adopt after much thought and debate.

While they were looking at the new born babies, they saw her in her little hospital bed, pale and so small. At that time, she was only a few months old. And when she opened her eyes, they were cerulean blue, a color Sarah Salazar admired. The doctor's told the Salazar's that the eyes would most likely change color, but Sarah payed no heed. She named that little girl Caerulean, and brought her home the next day.

The Salazar's were a family of nine. Seven children, two parents. There were six boys - Seth, Aiden, Max, Matthew, Michael, and Carter. The seventh child was Caerulean. Age wise, the boys were fairly close. Sarah and Jon kept trying for a baby girl, but never once regretted having six boys. Seth was 21, Aiden 20, Max and Matthew were twins, and they were 18 years old, Michael and Carter were twins and they were 17 years old. Caerulean was the youngest - 16 years old.

The entire family was always protective of Caerulean. She never asked for much, and when she did, they searched for the best thing they could find. One time, Caerulean wanted to ride a horse, so they found her horses of different sizes so she could choose one that she wanted to try by feeling them. She ended up not wanting to ride as the horse made a movement and scared her half to death.

The family doctor, Dr. Malik, believes Caerulean's parents were really small people because Caerulean never really grew. She stood at a very proud 5'1" and was always petite no matter what she ate, but not deathly skinny. Anything she wore, she looked so small in, and every class photo she took at Poseidon High, she looked as if she didn't belong. But that never mattered to her.

She told her mom she wanted long hair, so over the years they maintained a waist length of her black, curly locks. And even though the doctor's told Sarah the eye color would change, it never did. Throughout her years, her eyes stayed that same cerulean blue.

By the time she was 12, she had mastered several instruments - the piano, the violin, the cello, the ukulele, and the guitar. Anything she touched, she could learn to play. Her blindness never hindered her. With much testing, they came to a conclusion that her brain has a greater capacity than other's, which allowed her to do more without taking so much effort. And at 15, she became a MENSA International member.

She decided not to skip high school and go straight into college, particularly because she didn't know what she wanted to do. With her family owning the largest instrument company in the world, she could always compose music to test the instruments, or contract artists.

Being blind since birth enhanced her other senses. She hears things others cant, she can smell things better than her parents. She feels the way the air moves in a room, and she can tell if Alex took her extra potato slice off her plate. The Salazar's could not be more proud of Caerulean and their six sons, all of whom are pursuing a career in engineering, culinary arts, music, or even accounting.

Devin Steele is another story. He was born into riches and never understood how to appreciate it. His parents were constantly bickering, and when he was eleven, they divorced. His father never really loved him, and hired nanny's and caretakers to raise his son. Devin never really knew his father. Even to this day, they rarely talk.
