It's summertime in Colorado and everyone knows what that means. A lot of being outside, having fun in the sun, and the best part no school! Unfortunately, my mom has made better plans for the two of us than being lazy and doing absolutely nothing. Instead, she's making us go to Florida. For the whole summer. Ugh! I really don't want to go! I would rather just stay in Kentucky where all of my friends are.

My mother yells at me from her room "No Mel! We can't stay here, we are going to Florida! We need to go to uncle Rick's wedding. It's very important to him that we make it. Besides, you will have so much fun! You can go to the beach, swim in the ocean, they also have a pool at the house you can swim in whenever you want to."

I should probably give a little back story on my uncle Rick. He is rich and co-owns a big company that I have no idea what it's called. I have also never officially met him before. The last time I saw him was when I was three. I don't remember much other than that he likes to joke around a lot, and he spends his money pretty freely. I never met his soon to be wife. It's going to sound bad but I don't really care that I never met her. I think her name is Allison... or something. I have tried so hard to get out of going, but once my mom has made up her mind it's final. No going back. I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up. Not willingly by any means.

I reply to my mother with an attitude. "Fine mom. I won't argue with you anymore, but I want to tell my friends that I'm leaving before we actually go. When are we leaving anyway?" I realized that through my begging to not go she never told me when we were leaving. It's probably not going to be for another three weeks.

Man am I wrong on this one.

She comes into my room and says, "We are leaving tomorrow Mel."

There is a big pause before I yell, "Tomorrow! You're kidding right?"

"No. I'm not kidding you better get your bags packed we leave at 6 a.m. sharp to go to the airport."

"We're flying! Why can't we drive there? You know save money." This is not good! I have never flown in my life. I don't really like airplanes that much in general.

"Yes, we are flying because your uncle is paying for us. So you better get started on packing. Then you can go see your friends, and tell them goodbye, or whatever you're going to tell them."

My mom hasn't ever liked any of my friends... at least I think she doesn't. Anyways, the only friend of mine she seems to like is Vanessa. We just became friends more recently. It's one of those friendships where you feel like you have known them for your whole life. We met about 5 months ago in a class at school, and have been inseperable ever since. She's a blonde with olive skin and blue eyes. She is the definition of perfect. In my eyes at least. Me on the other hand. I have long brunette hair, dark brown eyes, and a tannish skin tone. We are complete polar opposites with our looks. But, we have similar personality traits. She is sweet, kind, caring, compassionate, and a little crazy when she wants to be. The same as me...somewhat.

I left the kitchen after grabbing my favorite snack. Fruit snacks of course. Then I went upstairs and texted Vanessa and some other friends in a group text.

Me: Hey guys! My mom is making me go to Florida for the rest of the summer. I leave tomorrow.😭😭

Ashley: Are you kidding me! That is so sad! Can't you get out of it?

Me: Nope... I already tried. No luck.

Brax: That sucks. I'm sorry.😘

Todd: I would hide you away if I could but I have to spend the summer with my grandparents.😝Ewww...

My phone suddenly buzzed, and I got an individual text from Vanessa.

Vanessa: OH MY GOD😱! I want to go to Florida with you! It really sucks you leave tomorrow.😭
