The Lockers | Kendelle to Raylynne
The envelope I've just found in Kendelle's backpack isn't the only interesting thing that caught my attention. For instance, I'd like to know a little bit more about the golden bracelet with rubies and amethysts that fell from the front pocket, and two more things.
One is a sort of packet, wrapped with pink paper and a green ribbon, whereas the other one is a small notebook, a sort of diary, that's not closed with anything. Basically, it could be opened by anyone. I place all that stuff next to the envelope and then tidy up, putting the rest back in the backpack. After that, the backpack is placed back to its original spot.
I have to act cautiously, so I partly hide the items I found, before going to the toilet in order to create a cover-up should Kendelle or anyone else show up at the locker room.
Suddenly, I hear some footsteps. I gulp but then realize I might be heard, so I cover my mouth with my hands. As I'm done with my stuff in the toilet, I slowly emerge out of it and walk my way towards the basin to wash my hands. That's where I catch another girl glaring at me. Why can't she just mind her business?
I know that girl. She's Leighanne "I-Don't-Give-a-Damn" Popovich, a downright bitch who believes that her snooty attitude is sarcastic sass, but actually she seems not to realize that every time she opens her mouth she sounds like a brat. Calling me a pointless midge is the habit for her, but I really don't care anymore.
She washes her hands and rinses her face thoroughly, shooting glares at me every now and then. Seriously, I'd really like to slap her face every now and then, for I can't really stand that smirk of hers constantly plastered on her face.
She dries her hands and face with a sponge white little towel, but is not considering leaving the locker room. In fact, I hear her mutter, "Huh? The lesson is going to be cancelled, since he's fucking late." She's talking about the teacher, who is still to show up. When the heck is he going to come? I'd like this torture to come to an end!
Suddenly, as if she even asked me for my opinion, she addresses to me. "Hey Singleton, do you want to know a funny thing?"
I nod, struck by curiosity. I know, I shouldn't even talk to her, since she's never been nice to me and is never gonna be nice to me, like, not even in a thousand years. Still, what she has to say seems to be interesting.
"I think I know something about Kendelle Bond you may definitely not like!" she exclaims, not even trying to restrain herself from laughing loud. Why does she always to be so coarse? This girl seems not to know what finesse is even meant to be.
As she stops laughing, I hear the door open once again. This time, however, it's Kendelle. While I still wish she wouldn't come here right now, I can't complain that much since, after all, she has to answer all my questions.
She and Leighanne great each other, completely ignoring me. At this point, I sit by my bench, paying attention not to blow my cover and have her suspect me for stealing some stuff from her backpack.
As she finds it, Kendelle opens it to look for her bottle of water. She takes it, drinks and then places it back in the backpack. However, she immediately recognizes my sheepish look and questions my behavior. "What's going on?" she asks suspiciously, while Leighanne whistles, much to my annoyance.
"I think she knows," is Leighanne's reply. She shoots yet another glare at me, which forces me to retrieve all the things I stole from Kendelle's backpack. The latter also takes part in the glare festival, also clearing her throat. Does she really have to look at me like that?
Suddenly, Leighanne's deadly look softens up a bit and she starts laughing under her breath. "Haha, I knew you would do this, Singleton. I just never thought you'd find this so soon." She snatches the bracelet from my hands, before wearing it. Then, she turns to Kendelle, her face as red as a tomato.
Kendelle is now furious. I don't get why she should, anyway, since it's her who stole it in first place. For some reasons, I was certain that it doesn't belong to her, but I wasn't sure about who was the actual owner. At least, now I know the truth.
"Okay, Raylynne, you caught me. I wanted to get back on Leighanne." Kendelle shakes her head, sighing and acting like Leighanne is not here. Nonetheless, Miss Sassy is still here, her arms crossed and another of her glares plastered on her face.
"But why did you take my diary, for instance? And who the hell let you take that envelope?" Kendelle is gradually raising her voice, sounding hysterical and getting me a headache. "You shouldn't have gone through my backpack, Singleton. Consider yourself in trouble!"
I stutter, unable to even pronounce a single word, but I guess I should just shame on myself for being too curious. Luckily for me, it looks like Leighanne is setting her sass aside for once to actually sort things out.
"If I were you, I wouldn't talk so soon, Kendelle," she says, making me tremble a little. I tentatively bite my nails, trying to stay unnotice, but fail as Kendelle glares at me. Leighanne reprises talking, shoving the diary and the envelope in front of Kendelle's face. "You know I've read your diary, do you remember?"
Kendelle shakes her head and I, for the very first time today, am left open-mouthed. I can't believe someone has read Kendelle's diary before. I thought I'd be the first one to have this privilege. But, after all, Kendelle Bond isn't exactly who I thought she is.
She attempts to snatch the diary off of Leighanne's hands, but fails as she throws it to me and I catch it. I open it and start scanning through the pages, hoping to find something interesting, until I find a whole paragraph written in red and in capital letters.
It says, 'Now I'm screwed. Big time. Leighanne knows everything. She knows how I feel about her, and she'll do whatever she can to make things even worse.' But what does even that mean? What are her feelings for Leighanne? And why should she hide them?
"I... I... I didn't see that the last time I read it... You must have written it afterwards..." Leighanne is now trembling, even looking like she's hiding something herself. There's something up when it comes to her and Kendelle, and I'm going to find it out, even if it means that my reputation is ruined for good.
