My eyes felt heavy as I struggled not to fall asleep on the Hogwarts Express.
I was starting my seventh and final year at Hogwarts, which I was not looking forward to. Many of my friends were younger, so they would still be in school for at least a few more years. That meant I wouldn't be able to see them as much, which only gave me one more thing to dread.
The past few months had been awful. My summer was as dull and boring as ever, all until my parents wound up missing. I was already willing to plan their funeral, having no hope that they would return anytime soon... if at all.
The only people I had now were my best friends, Fred and George Weasley. Of course I had a few other friends at Hogwarts, but the twins were the ones I always confided in.
My parents' disappearance was different. I hardly told them anything about it, as I figured it was quite obvious how I felt. Honestly, the Ministry has barely given me any information on the case of my missing parents. They kept sending me letters, always telling me that they were still looking, but that nothing had turned up yet, not even a bit of evidence.
From the corner of my eye, I could see the twins. They were both playing a game of cards, laughing quietly every now and then so that they didn't wake the sleeping figure in the corner.
I had read the fading letters on the man's suitcase when the twins and I first walked into the compartment.
Professor R. J. Lupin, I remembered. The man, as I said earlier, was sleeping. His eyes, which were home to some beautiful long lashes, I thought, were closed shut, and his mouth hung open slightly. The professor snored softly, but the noise was mostly covered up by the sound of the moving train.
But suddenly, the train came to a stop, the professors' snores once again becoming audible.
I sat up from my slumped position and looked at Fred and George with a questioning look, but they simply shrugged their shoulders.
I looked out the window curiously, to see if we were even close to Hogwarts. I could see the faint silhouette, (*insert Bohemian Rhapsody here*), of the castle in the night, but it was still a good hour away, at least.
The lights went off on the train and the compartment grew cold.
I got up to look out into the corridor, sliding the glass door open. I poked my head out, first looking to the right, and saw other students doing the same, though much more frantically.
When I turned my head to the left, however, I became face to face with a dark, and cloaked figure.
For a moment I thought it was Sirius Black, but I soon realized there was no way he could've just boarded a train without being caught. No, I recognized the floating figure as a dementor, one of the guards of Azkaban.
I felt a sense of dread as it attempted to suck the soul out of my body, but I used all my remaining strength to pull away and shut the door.
I thought the dementor would simply float away but it didn't. It tried to to open the compartment door, so, quieting a worried Fred and George, I opened the door again, this time holding my wand in my hand.
Just as I was about to perform the Patronus charm, a figure came from behind me, and moved me out of the way, placing a protective arm across my chest. I saw that it was the sleeping professor from before, now wide awake and very alert.
"Expecto Patronum!" The man shouted, and I grabbed his shoulder with both my hands, peering over his tall form.
The dementor was no where in sight, so he lowered his wand and turned toward me when the lights came back on a few moments later. I blushed and removed my hands from his shoulder, stepping back so that we weren't so close.
He flashed me a kind smile and I couldn't help but grin a little. The professor looked into the corridor, making sure no more dementors were on board, and closed the compartment door again.
He sat in his original seat, across from me, and reached into his pocket, pulling out a chocolate bar. I smiled as he broke off a couple pieces and handed them to Fred, George, and I.
"You know the patronus charm?" The Professor asked me, and I nodded my head.
"I taught myself during my fifth year. I wanted to know what my patronus would be." I admitted shyly.
He smiled again, nodding his head, almost looking impressed, "Sorry, if I knew, I would have let you. I just didn't want it to try and attack you again," He said.
I thanked him quietly, and looked to Fred and George, who knew I was awkward when it came to talking to new people.
"So, you're our new D.A.D.A professor?" Fred chimed in.
"Yes, Dumbledore came and offered me the job about two months ago, I believe." The professor replied.
The three of us nodded our heads in unison, and the professor stood up slowly, once again approaching the door and stood in its doorway.
"I'll be happy to answer any more questions when I get back, but I really should go and have a word with the driver."
Once again, we all nodded and he shut the door behind him and walked away.
I turned to the twins and for the first time during the whole train ride, I spoke to them, "You know, I thought I could never feel worse, but that dementor sure proved me wrong."
"I bet," Said George, a flash of sympathy in his eyes, "Dad went to Azkaban once, he came back all shaky and what-not. The dementors scared the daylights out of him."
"I don't doubt it." I replied in a haunted voice.
I shivered at the thought of the dementor and returned to my previous, slumped position. Even though I wanted to stay awake and talk to the professor when he got back, I couldn't help but rest my head against the window and fall asleep.

[A/N] Sorry, this chapter is a little short I think! I still hope you all like it and that you'll continue to read this story as I write more chapters. I just wanted to sort of introduce the character and see what you think! This is my first fanfic I'm writing so I'm very excited to see how it does. I've been wanting to write it for a very long time, so I already have a bunch of ideas on hand. Hope you all have a nice day, and check out my bio if you can! xoxo
