Just as I suspected, Professor McGonagall called me to her desk after class. I released a heavy, but inaudible breath, setting my bags down before approaching her slowly.
"Yes, Professor?" I asked, trying my best not to sound irritable.
She organized some things on her desk before turning towards me, taking her time as she thought of what to say.
"I was wondering...", she began, standing up as she began to organize the rest of the classroom with her wand in hand, "Have you heard anything from the ministry? About your parents?"
My gaze followed her around the classroom, waiting for her to stop and look at me. Eventually, she noticed my silence and stopped, turning towards me once again.
"They haven't found any evidence yet," I said gravely, trying my best to hide my anger, "It's quite frustrating really. All they're telling me is that they're looking, but, that's it I'm afraid."
"I'm sorry to hear that," McGonagall said in a sincere voice, returning to her desk as she spoke, "I don't blame you for feeling that way. Of course I'd never speak a word against the Ministry, but they do always seem to take their time with matters like this."
Her tone sounded bitter, almost sarcastic even, but I chose to ignore it.
"Well, I should probably go now, Professor, so I'm not late to class." I said monotonously, picking up my bag from the desk. She nodded in reply, sitting down in her chair once more.
"Quinn..." she said, just before I exited the room. I turned to her, waiting for her to finish her sentence, "Let me know if you hear anything."
With that, I nodded, leaving her room and heading towards the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. I suspected that she wanted to say something else, but she must've thought better of it, whatever it was.
When I finally made it to the D.A.D.A room, I saw that Professor Lupin wasn't in there. Instead, I saw many confused students who stood around whispering quietly about where the missing Professor could be.
Nothing more than a few short moments later did Lupin walk through the door... wearing an adorable gray cardigan, with a shirt and tie underneath. I felt my cheeks flush for a moment, but I was quick to regain my composure, scolding myself for being such an idiot.
During my inner conversation, I hadn't heard a single thing Professor Lupin had said. I soon realized we were leaving the room, and I followed the other students out, trying to ignore the butterflies in my chest as Lupin gave me a small smile.
I was the last one in line, so the professor shut the door behind me and headed to the front of the small group of students. He led us through the empty hallways, to a large room, which I knew to be the teachers lounge. Just outside the door, was Peeves...again.
I managed to hold back a glare, while Lupin smiled in an almost amused sort of way at the ghost.
Peeves was busy shoving a piece of pink bubblegum into the keyhole, more than likely the same one I had sent down his right nostril. When he noticed the class staring at him curiously, he turned to Lupin, no doubt thinking of a clever insult to throw at the Professor.
"Ah, isn't it loony, loopy, Lupin." He said, though the professor still stood there smiling.
"Mr. Filch won't be too happy with you if you keep doing that, Peeves. He won't be able to get to his brooms." Said Lupin calmly. Peeves simply laughed at the statement and returned to shoving the gum into the keyhole.
Professor Lupin sighed, taking out his wand as the ghost blew a loud raspberry, spraying ghostly saliva over the ground. Lupin's wand was now raised and pointed at the keyhole, and I soon realized he was about to use the same spell as I had earlier.
"Waddiwasi!" He called out, and sure enough the gum came shooting out of the door handle, and down Peeves' nose.
"NOT AGAIN!" Peeves cried, flashing both me and Lupin a glare, which caused the professor to look at me curiously. Again, Peeves wailed loudly, calling out a plethora of swears, and floated off down the hall, his cries soon becoming a distant echo.
The other students laughed as Lupin unlocked the lounge door, prompting us to go inside. Meanwhile, I rolled my eyes at Peeves' antics and headed into the dark, and quite empty room. As Lupin held open the door, he shook his head at me, a slight grin on his face, as he realized I'd been the other gum-culprit.
I couldn't help but smile, until a violent shake erupted from an old wardrobe in the middle of the room. The class simultaneously jumped, as again, the wardrobe shook violently, causing the professor to laugh as he made his way to the front of the classroom.
He stood in front of the shaking wardrobe, which we all thought was a very bad idea, considering its violent behavior. Lupin quieted our panicked voices, and cleared his throat as he began to speak.
"Now, I see your all quite frightened, but can anybody tell me what is inside there." He said, pointing behind him at the filthy, dust-covered wardrobe.
I knew exactly what was in there, it was a boggart. A shape shifting nightmare that turned into your very worst fear. I despised the creatures, even though I personally have never met one.
A girl standing towards the front slowly raised her hand. She answered Lupin's question quietly and he nodded his head, awarding her house five points.
Lupin continued to speak, almost... enthusiastically, about the boggart. I wish I could say I shared his enthusiasm, but as I got in the back of the quickly forming line, all I could feel was dread. I knew what I feared, which only made me panic more so.
As the line dwindled down, I found myself now towards the front, only three people in front of me. Somebody stepped up, a Slytherin boy with dirty blonde hair, and the boggart turned into a giant ball of flame.
"Riddiculus!" The boy called, and a cloud rained upon the flames.
The next person stepped up and the boggart turned into a monstrous swamp-creature. It had glowing green eyes, and it dripped with thick goo. All it did was make me feel sick, but fearfully, the person raised their wand and turned the monster into a mud puddle.
The person in front of me went, causing my heart to beat rapidly as I stepped up to the boggart. In a flash, I saw the twins, standing next to each other with frowns that seemed out of place on their identical faces. I gasped as a flash of green came out of no where, and when the light faded, all I could see was their bodies, laying cold and dead on the wooden floor.
My eyes widened, and my wand clattered to the floor, though I hardly noticed it. All I could think about was their unseeing eyes, their motionless bodies... it felt like my heart was ripped from my chest.
I stood their shaking, until suddenly, Professor Lupin jumped in front of me, calling out the incantation and sending the boggart back into the wardrobe. He dismissed the class quietly, looking to me as the last student left the room.
I was rooted to my spot, staring where Fred and George's bodies lay only seconds ago. Lupin bent down and picked up my wand, still staring at me with concern.
"Are you alright?" He asked, his voice soft and calming as he placed a hand on my shoulder gently. I looked into his green eyes, my own filled with tears, and slowly shook my head. He looked down, ashamed at the pain he caused me, and held out my wand for me to take.
"I'm sorry." He said quickly, his other hand dropping from my shoulder, returning to his side once again.
I took my wand and turned around, preparing to leave the room before I broke down into tears. He didn't stop me, or even say anything, but I stopped in the doorway to look at him.
"Don't be sorry... it's not your fault." I said, trying to keep my voice calm and sincere as I choked back sobs.
He nodded his head gently, and so I left, letting my tears cascade down my face as I made my way to the Gryffindor common room. I wasn't sure what to make of the whole thing, I only knew that I was thankful Lupin had rid me of the horrendous sight. Despite this, the image of the two dead bodies remained burned into my memory, causing me to shiver despite the warmth of the hallways.
