25. Goodbye

Waking up the next day was without a doubt, one of the hardest things I've had to do in my life. After being found guilty of a room full of hard faces, after being told by my brother that a monster was back with us as the top of his guest list, after losing what was left of my childhood too soon. This just hurt me so much more.

Through the night my thoughts were at a constant race, zooming around my head. Ray will make his move, mostly likely in the next couple of days. That is inevitable. I will not under any circumstances give him the satisfaction of seeing my fear when the chance for him to do so arrises. That satisfaction will not be his.

Now, thanks to Luke i have another threat waiting for me around the corner.

The mere thought of his name makes the muscle around my body tense up. Fire erupts around my throat as the urge to cry fills me once again. His betrayal scares me. My reaction scares me more.

I had been so good at it. Looking at people in the correct way, not giving myself an ounce of happiness at the worry it would be ripped away. I suppose a clown can only wear his mask for so long.

Looking in the mirror I force myself to ignore the curly haired boy that could of broke me. How he would look at me and make me feel special, his brown eyes listening, taking in every word i spoke. His threatening demenor to everyone that wasn't me. His challenge. His positivity. His hope.

"Looks like your buddies made a lucky escape," Tyler appears at my cell, his tongue darting out to moisten his lip as he fights back the urge to grin. "It is strange though. I mean i could have swore he had a good year left on his sentence."

Wait what! I succumb the urge to seem surprised. He's gone, he's actually left me. My bottom lip quivers but I grab it tightly prevent Tyler from seeing me like this. The haunting thought of how close he must actually be to my Uncle is brought to my attention. That and the unwelcoming idea of how powerful he must be to move him.

"It's strange alright." I blunty reply while clenching my fists behind my back. It took him a day, a day to get out. I hope it was worth it.

"You know whats also weird, Kat?"

"You know i don't care?"

Tyler throws his head back, chuckling to himself before turning back to me with a serious expression.

"Im going to miss that." With that he nods to the control room on the bottom floor and my cell opens. Confused and hesitant i take a step back, becoming more cautious when he takes a pair of handcuffs from his pocket.

"Moving onto the kinky shit already? At least buy me dinner first."

"Shut up and put your hands behind your back. Someone put in a special word for you with the boss. You're getting moved to another prison."

The cuffs are locked loosly around my wrists as i process the information. Should i be glad? For a moment i hope that this is down to someone looking out for me, taking me out of this place so i'm not a sitting duck. But i know by now that my luck isnt that good.

A few minutes later i find myself face to face with the governor. The last time we'd seen eachother was when I had fucked a guard for Merrick. Thirty years old, married with a kid. That never stopped him. Its safe to say it wasn't a pleasant meeting. The governer is a middle aged man with the first signs of aging showing in the wrinkles that begin to settle on his cheeks and the grey that begins to grow on his short hair. His stance oozes forced authority that I can tell he thrives off, growing his ego with every working day.

His expression remains hard and authoritive when he speaks to me. "We have been informed that you will no longer be staying with us, Kat. Let's skip the goodbye speech because I know that neither of us are too torn up about this. Now due to the...circumstances that surround you we have made arrangements for you to travel by car with your therapist rachel who will be accompaning you during travel and hopefully after."

This makes a small smile play on my lips at the lady that now brings a sense of comfort to my life. I'm gettimg out of here. I can start new, even change completely.

"Thats it? What's the catch?" I may not be the smartest kid in the class but i'm almost certain that someone can't move this easily. Surely paperwork needs to be done, information needs to be set.

"We've been discussing this for a while, Kat. The only thing left to figure out is the when. And the when is now."

A glimmer flicks in his eyes before he says his last words to me. Any normal person would have missed it, however me being the paranoid psychopath i am see it clearly. The governers got a secret, he's frightened. He swallows harshly before flicking his eyes to the cojoining room that connects to his office. Whats in there? Or should i say who's in there?

"Goodbye, Kat."

The bite that the handcuffs give my wrists urge me out of the room.

"I wish we could say a real goodbye," Tyler's breath fans my face as he attempts a seduction. A yelp escapes my lips when he tightens the cuffs on my wrists, biting into my skin harshly. "Little tight?" He teases and I can practically feel his grin behind me.

"Just tickles." I snap. Wriggling only forces the metal against me more. I bite my lip almost hard enough to draw blood as I am passed back and forth between officers, all of which who gawk at me with surprised expressions. Guessing they don't watch a lot of people walk out these doors after walking in.  My eyes flick to the dusty mirror that sits at the front of the van. Only part of my face reflects but I'm almost shocked at how little has changed in my appearance since I arrived at this place. Same glossy eyes that show nothing to what's going on the inside. My brown hair surprisingly looks a lot better from the ratty mess it was before. Showers were a necessity where I was. Only rarely would I be able to stand under the steaming hot water, scrubbing viciously all of the dirt that covered me. Both inside and out.

Eventually after what seems like an age I'm shoved in a truck. Tyler sits next to me far too closely for my liking, Rachel opposite with a worried frown etched on her face. Turning away from her I try my hardest not to meet her gaze. Not giving her the slightest chance to try and unravel what's going on in my head. We drive off in a slow continuous movement, the handcuffs stinging more and more as we hit the ridiculous amount of pot holes in the road. The place I have known to be a sanctuary slowly disappears before me, becoming smaller and smaller as we ride out.

My mental state could be the exact reason this has all happened so quick I think as I watch Rachel's hand grasp her notes which contain my whole life. A frown plays on my lips thinking of how it would be unfortunate for this new place to have all this information. Surely we'd have protected it enough to not just be thrown away, given to another person who thinks they can help me. Truth is I can't be helped.

"You not upset to leave me, Rachel." I tease and she jumps at the first words that have been spoken since we set off on our journey. For once since we met she doesn't try to read me or try scan my face as if she's putting together a puzzle. I don't know what she's looking at. It's basically abandoned in the area we are travelling. This being my first time out I half expected to be gobsmacked, taking in my location as if it was the first time. Instead around us is dull, full of nothing expect grass sand a few shitty trees.

Rachel shifts in her seat, taking nervous glances in Tyler's direction before answering me. "I'm going to be with you all the way." Her words sound nothing like her.

"All the way?" I reply before my head is smashed against the hard surface behind me. My head swims from the impact and I want to scream at the migraine that shoots through me.

"What the fuck was that!" I scream at Tyler, jolting up and down as i try to reach him. His hands remain in the same position as they must have been when he assaulted me.

He opens his mouth to answer but is stopped by another force which jolts our car off the road. Only this time I don't stay conscious to see what happens next.
