"Melodie, you're taking way too long in the bathroom!" My step sister Melissa yelled from the other side of the bathroom door.
"I've been in here for like five minutes!" I yelled back.
"Oh, you did not just yell at me!" I heard her footsteps lead her away, and a few minutes later someone was banging on the bathroom door.
"Melodie Alexis Johnson!" My step mothers high pitched voice screamed. "Why are you being mean to your sister?" She demanded.
I bit my tongue. "She's not my sister, and I'm not being mean to her." Hell, living with Melissa was like living with my bully. She picked on me every chance she could at school, but if it ever got bad enough to go to the principal's office she would just say she was only trying to play with her sister.
"Melodie! You do not say she is not your sister, we all live in this house and we are a family whether you like it or not!" I sighed and put my glasses on, trying to decide whether or not to leave my hair down. Hm, it hasn't been down in a while.
I run a curling wand through it quickly, though its nearly impossible to tell because my hair is really thick, and ten minutes of messing around with an iron isn't enough to make any real progress. I looked at myself in the mirror, tossing my hair lightly with my fingers. Well...it seems like it added volume, at least.
I walked out of the bathroom and into my room, Melissa rushed into the bathroom and Kristy glared at me. I shut my bedroom door and started putting everything I'd taken out last night to do my homework back in my backpack.
Sweeping my eyes over my room I catch sight of my laptop sitting on my nightstand, still slightly open. After throwing myself onto my bed I scrambled over to my laptop and grabbed it, pulling it open all of the way and putting in my password.
When I next look at the time I see I've wasted nearly twenty minutes and I quickly shut my laptop, sliding it under my comforter and pillows and getting off of my bed.
I slipped my backpack onto my shoulders and then exited my room, having decided to go downstairs to finish the remainder of my wait before I left to school. Well, more accurately, until Grace, my best friend that lives a few blocks over, gets here ready to walk to school.
Plopping into a chair at the kitchen table I sighed, wondering if I should eat something for breakfast.
"So I heard you were being mean to your sister today and back talking your step mom already." I looked up to meet my dad's hard glare. "I thought we'd already been over this yesterday."
"Sorry," I grumbled, getting up from my seat and pouring myself some cereal. I decided to have something for breakfast.
"You better be, and if you don't cut it out you're going to be grounded." I nodded my head as I poured milk into the bowl filled a little over halfway with Lucky Charms. I grabbed a spoon and then sat back down in my seat, beginning to eat.
I cocked my head to the side a bit as I watched him type away on his laptop. "Watcha doin?"
"Work stuff," he replied without looking up.
I nod my head a little, knowing that's all I will get from him, even if I pry and pry. I decide not to, because I don't see the point. "Well, nice talking to you, too, dad."
So, this is my life. I have a mean step mom, a horrible step sister/bully, and a dad who barely talks to me, unless he's grilling me about something my step mom or step sister told him. Decent enough, I guess, but it'd be a whole lot better if Kristy and Melissa had never come into the picture in the first place.
