Chapter Three - Dylan
I looked down at my watch for the second time in the last five minutes. I'd been sitting at the bar waiting for my friend Oliver for twenty minutes now. After sixteen years of being friends, you would think that he would have earned to turn up on time by now. I looked over at the door just as he walked into the room and looked around. I lifted up my hand to get his attention and he walked over to me, sitting down in the chair opposite.
"Hey, man. How you been?" I asked him.
"I've been good. Great actually."
"Why's that?"
"I just got off the phone with my dad. They're here. I finally get to meet them."
He sounded so happy. Oliver had siblings that he had been wanting to meet for years. He never knew who his dad was because his mother never wanted him to know. After she died, he went to search for him. He found him a couple of months later and made contact. They now have a great relationship with each other. It turned out that his dad is married and has two children with his wife, but when he left to meet Oliver and stay to look after him for a while, his other two children thought he had left them and now want nothing to do with him. His wife understood the situation and was fine with it but his other children didn't.
"So, why are they here now. I thought that they didn't want anything to do with him?"
He sighed. "Their mum has cancer and is now going through treatment. Apparently they need an adult to look after them until they are of age. Their mum picked dad and now I get to meet them. I'm just hoping that they don't hate me. I've always wanted sibllings."
I felt really bad for him and his dad. I understood where his siblings were coming from and why they were angry but that didn't make it any easier on them. I know his dad missed his children and his wife so much. I also knew how desperate Oliver was to have a relationship with them.
"When do you get to see them?"
"Tomorrow. They turned up today but dad hasn't told them about me yet. We're going to do it together. That way they can get the story from both of us."
"Do you have a picture of them?"
He nodded. "Yeah. Rose, that's dads wife, has been sending him pictures over the last few years of them growing up. He gave me a copy of them." He said, as he pulled a photo from his wallet. He showed me the picture and my eyes widdened. They looked just like him and his dad. My eyes were instantly drawn to the young girl. She was beautiful. Absolutely stunning.
"Wow." I whispered. "They look just like you."
"Yeah. I know. I have a baby sister and brother." He whispered back.
I laughed. "I don't think that you can really call them babies anymore. They look about seventeen."
He nodded. "They are seventeen. That's four years difference between us and them. Why didn't my mum just tell me about my dad? I could have met them years ago. And what about dad? They haven't seen him in years. This is all just so messed up." He sighed, putting his head in his hands.
I patted him on the back. "It might be difficult for them to begin with but once they get to know you then I'm sure that they will love yo just like you already love them. Non of you are to blame for anything that happened. You just wanted a family. They can't blame you for that."
He lifted his head back up and gave me a grateful smile. We sat in the bar for another hour before heading off home. I moved into Oliver's house when we turned eighteen. His dad lived in the house with us until we turned twenty. That's when he got his money from his uncles will and moved into the house across the street. Oliver would have got to meet his siblings today if he didn't have to work. That is why he has to wait until tomorrow.
As we pulled up, we saw an unfamiliar car outside Jake, Oliver's dad's, house. That must be his siblings car. We got out and walked up to the door. I unlocked the door and turned to see Oliver looking over to his dads house. I could tell that he wanted to go over there but was trying to fight against the urge to do so. He sighed deeply before he turned and walked through the door. After a few seconds, I followed after him, closing the door behind me.
When I walked into the living room, Oliver was already sitting down with his head in his hands. I sat next to him and put my hand on his shoulder. "You only have to wait until tomorrow. It's not long."
"But I don't want to wait to see them. It's been eight years already. I've waited long enough." He said as he started to stand.
I pulled him back down. "Yes, I know you've waited a long time. So a couple more hours is not going to hurt. If you go over there now and demand to meet them, then you might make thing bad for yourself. They might never want to see you if you do that. Is that what you want?"
He sat there in silence for a couple of seconds before gently shaking his head. I know how bad he wants this but he needs to understand that he has known about them for eight years while they have never even heard of him before.
When I see him like this, it makes me glad that my family are the way they are, no matter how annoying they can get. My mum and dad have been together since they were teenagers. I'm the oldest of four. There's me, my two brothers, Derek, Jordan who are nineteen and eighteen, and finally, my baby sister Julie who is six. My mum was only sixteen when she had me and thankfully, my dad stuck by her. She was eighteen when she had Derek and nineteen when she had Jordan. Having three kids at such a young age was tough for them both, which is why they waited twelve years before they had Julie. Both my parents were studying to become interior designers and now run their own company. We had a very good upbringing.
I looked back over to my friend as I felt a wave of guilt flow through my body. He didn't get to have a normal childhood like I did. I just hope that everything works out for him tomorrow. He needs this more than he is willing to admit. He needs a proper family.
"Come on, mate. I think it's time for you to get to bed." I said, slowly getting up from the sofa.
He nodded. "I think you're right."
We both walked up the stairs and went to our rooms. I stripped down to my boxers and climbed into bed. Tomorrow was going to be a big day. As I drifted off to sleep, the only thing I could see in my head was a beautiful pair of crystal blue eyes.

Finally updated! I am really sorry that I am taking forever, but I am in my second year of sixth form and can only write when I have the time. I am also trying to write maybe two or three chapters at a time before I decide that they are good enough for me to upload.
I would really like to know what everyone thinks so far! If there are any spelling mistakes please let me know, I already have a friend helping me as much as she can but would love the extra help.
