Miitopia is a turn-based RPG that involves saving people's faces from the Dark Lord.
THE GAME
Upon booting up the game for the first time, you are immediately required to choose a Mii to represent you. After that, it explains the basis of the story to you. To simplify it, someone is stealing people's faces and putting them on monsters. Then the game shows you witnessing a pair of eyes go onto a monster. A Rock Moth, to be exact. (It's essentially a pink butterfly with eyes on the wings.)After retreating from the Rock Moth, the game shows you the map (aka level selection) and lets you go to the peaceful town of Greenhorne. Well, it's peaceful until you talk to the mayor, which is when the Dark Lord shows up. (You get to choose who plays the role of the Dark Lord. Fun!) The Dark Lord steals some of the faces in the town, which include but are not limited to the Carefree Guide, Sassy Child, and Lovey-Dovey Couple (Girl). He then retreats south. The Worried Mother of the Sassy Child (for the sake of not saying "Sassy Child" repeatedly, we'll call him Bob Ross. The Miis of the town are randomly assigned from the internet) asks you to save her child, and when you agree, she gives you an antique charm.
You'll head south from the town and encounter the Dark Lord, demanding Bob Ross's face back. He will agree to give it back, but you will have to earn it. AKA, he puts the face on a Mini Slime and you will have to defeat it. With no weapons or gear, you would think this would be challenging. Suddenly, the antique charm starts glowing and a voice starts coming out of it. This voice, also known as the guardian spirit, gives you the power to pick a job.
Your Job is essentially your role in battle. The six you can choose are Warrior, Mage, Cleric, Thief, Pop Star (male and female variants), and Chef. I personally recommend Warrior or Mage. The fight is easy, as it only takes two hits to kill. The only exception is if you chose the Thief or Pop Star. They do less damage but hit all enemies. Defeating the monster saves the face, and it flies back to Greenhorne. Return to Greenhorne to put Bob Ross's face back. The Worried Mother thanks you and gives you 200G.
The guardian spirit asks you to defeat the Dark Lord. Even if you refuse, he makes it feel like you kinda have to, which I find funny. The next level you play introduces the fact that the game isn't just battles, as there are events that happen in the levels. You'll fight one Rock Moth, but apparently (despite it being one of the easier enemies of the game) two Rock Moths isn't easy enough to handle alone. (You'd have also just leveled up after the one Rock Moth)
So you get to pick a second party member. You don't get to control your other party members. The AI controls well, though, so you shouldn't worry. Anyway, you'll meet the Great Sage, play a few more levels, save a few more faces, learn some skills/spells, get two other party members, and eventually beat all the bosses scattered around the map. After doing this, the mayor will give you an introduction, which would normally allow you to get into the castle. However, the demo stops there. So I will put in a SPOILER WARNING. The rest of this column will contain spoilers for the full game of Miitopia. Unless you've played this before, I recommend stopping here.
Anyways, you'd get to the castle and warn the king. He doesn't believe you, obviously. Immediately after blatantly saying "We don't believe a word of it," his face is stolen. You go save his face by defeating a "King" Golem and return to the castle to receive a lot of gold. (2000G to be exact) You'll then talk to the princess who'll ask if "Besmirched Noble's Son" (we'll call him David) is okay.
Go back to Greenhorne town, but you'll see a golden enemy before entering town. That is a Gold Snurp. He'll give you 500G if you beat it. Anyway, go back to town to find out that Bob Ross ran off somewhere. The mom asks you to help them again, and after accepting, she'll say that she asked someone else to help before, but she doesn't believe he's up to it. Go down from town to witness David get rekt by some Goblins that were attacking Bob Ross. After that, the Goblins will attack you. (but it's an easy fight, don't worry) You then explain the scenario to David and return to the princess, who gives you another 1000G. The princess is glad to hear that David is okay, but...
