Beep, beep, beep!

Ughhhh really? Rubbing my eyes as I sit up. Come on, Harley, wake up.

Beep, beep, beep!

Man, I hate this damn alarm! I throw it at the wall across the room.

Waking up at four in the morning to take care of your dad isn't the easiest, but I love him so I'll do whatever I can to keep him healthy. He has a heart problem where one side of his heart doesn't pump blood correctly. I think it was because of all the fights he'd gotten into with other packs.

My dad is 54, but looks like he's in his thirties. He has short, dark brown hair and warm brown eyes. He stands tall at 6'4" with an incredibly muscular physique. He may seem tough, but he's really a laid-back kind of guy. He's older than a normal alpha with a kid, though, because my mom had fertility issues.

I'm 17, about 5'7" tall with a swimmer's body, but a bit more muscular. I have long, blonde hair and blueish gray eyes. Both features taken from my mom. I have a more "I don't take shit from no one" type of attitude, but I have respect for people until I feel they don't deserve it, which is actually most of the time.

When I finally roll out of bed, I take a quick shower, then put on sweats and a tank top to get my dad his pills and a glass of water. I run down the stairs saying good morning to anyone that has bothered to get up this early. Quickly heading to the kitchen, I see my best friends Kalahari (Kal) and Elizabeth (Liz), who had already taken out my dad's pills and a glass of room temperature water.

"Hey, guys! Thanks for pulling that out for me. Wait, why are you guys up this early?"

They look at each other and at the same time scream, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

I stare at them for a minute, then it clicks. "Holy shit! It's my birthday!" They start to giggle when my smile grows wide. "Wow. Thanks, guys! I totally forgot, but, hey, we'll talk more when I'm done with my dad, okay?" I said as I was walking away with the pills and water. They both gave a half "Okay" and "Bye" because they were making plans for all of us to do today.

I ran as fast as I could up the stairs and down the hall towards my dad's room without spilling the water. I knock two times like I always do, but don't get a response.

"Dad?" Maybe he's barely waking up.

No response.

"Dad?!" My heart starts to race.

Still no response.

Fearing the worst and adrenaline pumping, I kick the door down. "DAD!"

What I saw scarred me for life. He was on the floor crying and curled up in a ball with blood coming out of his mouth.

"Dad! Hold on! I'll mind-link the pack doctor!"

He didn't respond, but I knew he understood me.

A couple minutes later, the doctor came and took him down to the infirmary. I was by his side the whole time until one of the nurses stopped me.

"I'm sorry, but you can't come."

"But my dad!"

"We will do all we can for our Alpha." With that, she left.

This all happened so quickly. I was always worried about something like this happening so I made sure he was moved to a room closest to the infirmary as possible. That way no one saw or heard anything.

Time goes by slowly.

It's been two hours. Two! And there's no new information on my dad. I think I'm going crazy just sitting here. I need to do something.

Oh, I know. There was some paperwork I still needed to do from last night. Yeah, you heard me. PAPER WORK. Since my dad has gotten a lot worse over the years, he began Alpha training me early. You see, normally you would wait until you were 18 and out of high school before you started training, but my circumstances were different.

30 minutes later, I arrived at the office. It's technically mine since I'm pretty much the Alpha. (I just don't have the title or power yet.) My friends attempted to get me out, but I just wasn't in the mood. I told them I'll get back to them once I'd finished. I didn't want to tell them or anyone about what happened just yet. I eventually did finish some important paperwork and double-checked for any mistakes.

I was barely putting everything away and about to lock my office when one of the nurses mind-linked me, saying to come down to the emergency room quickly. Of course I ran as fast as I could. So fast that I was just a blur.

When I got there, all the doctors and nurses were outside waiting for me. They looked at me and all I saw was sadness and pity.

Catching my breath, I ask, "What happened?"

"We are so sorry. There wasn't much we could do to help him."

"No... No, this can't be happening... No!" I practically howled as I fell to my knees.
I'm sure everyone in the main pack house and 50 miles away heard me. I quickly mind-linked my Beta and Third, plus my father's, "In my office! Now!"
