Where Waters Meet is unusual among the cities of Australia.
By the standards of a town, its quite large, nearly a small city, with its own CBD area, several famous parks such as Endeavour Park and the nationally acclaimed rose gardens at Hyde Gardens, national parks . It's famous among Australians for its high drug rates, but it's also famous as the home town of Top Dog Industries (Bringing you tomorrow's technology at yesterdays prices!) and for its history and difficult foundation.
It's weird in a way, that the settlers of the site would name the city Where Waters Meet, after the three major rivers that flow though it, the James, the Phillip and the Anderson Rivers. They could have named it anything; they could have named it Anderson Town, after the brothers that founded the colony, o they could have named it Survivor Cove, after the ship that bought them there, or maybe George's Cove, after the king of England at the time.
In fact, the name of Where Waters Meet is even more unusual when you realise what the local Aboriginal people, the Nerra-nerra people, called the site.
They called it Yurranguriandidit.
Where the rivers (insert word that implies sex and sexual intercourse).
The colonists had no knowledge of the local Aboriginal people. They cam only for the rich minerals that existed deep beneath the earth in Eagle Mountain and not for the people there.
They had no idea of the problems they were to encounter at the site.
Or the evil that was to befall them.
Because, in there hast to build up and dig deep, to tear the heart out of the earth, he people never noticed the darkness that was buried there.
Buried and best forgotten.
Buried and watching.
Watching. And waiting.
