The one that you love—1981

"Say cheese," my mother began as the camera's light flashed, capturing a bright picture of my brother and I at our graduation.
"Ah, my jaws hurts," he exclaimed as the camera spat out the latest photograph.
My mother brushed him off but he took that as a sign to run off with his friends from the basketball team.
I watched as he slapped each one on the back affectionately, grinning from ear to ear as they scanned the large crowd for some hot girls to bring to the party we were hosting that night in celebration of our accomplishments.
I smiled.
I really was gonna miss everybody.
Especially my best friend, Jimin.
The single thought of actually leaving him left me startled, afraid that if we both parted there will be absolutely no way I could live.
Society wouldn't blame us either.
Everyone knew me and Chim.
We were inseparable.
The minute you saw either of us without the other, you immediately began to worry.
Yup, close indeed.
We'd been friends since third grade.
I was five months older than him and he constantly insisted on calling me noona to which I blatantly refused.
Literally, I threatened to severe his neck if he ever did.
And from then he knew that I would always protect him.
He was also my date to the prom and I gotta say, we were smashing.
Twin tux buddies sauntering through the dimly lit halls of the school, both disregarding the judging eyes and opinions of fellow students as we danced the night away.
It was perfect.
Even if he was the one wearing the corsage.
And we both agreed to my plan on reversing the whole prom date thing while adding a little spice.
Life couldn't be better.
Yet it was.
Yet it wasn't.
We were finally finished living the four year contract called high school only to sign a next contract called college.
Sadly, we weren't attending the same one.
To make matters worse, mine was way in Busan while his was in Daegu.
I snapped back into reality when I heard soft sniffles behind me.
I quickly spun on my heels only to be faced with the one person I knew I was gonna miss even more than Chim.
"Mummy."
I gently threw myself in her shaking arms and she wrapped her own arms around my waist, burying her weeping face into my chest.
"Oh don't worry about me, skittles, I'm fine," she assured me.
"I'm just gonna miss you and your brother so very much."
"I'll miss you too mum."
Another pair of arms joined us and he held us both, hovering over both me and mum together.
