Walking up the steps to Charion Highschool you would think it was just an average school for sophomore, junior and senior year students, but when the doors are opened and the children start to "show their true colors", your whole mind frame changes. Charion was more like a social battle ground but instead of blood and gore, it was tears and sobs. The students were divided into three groups, you have the preps lead by Ms. Popular, Sylvia Weston, then you have the drama freaks, lead by Gabriella Smith, and finally you have the gang of misfits and trouble makers, led by Chace Felder. The three social groups ruled the school and would do anything to make sure the social order wasn't broken, they were the hats, they belonged on the head and the rest of the school were the shoes, we belonged on the feet.
I'm Sara Mitchells and I am by far the sole of the shoe, I belong on the very, very bottom of the foot. I'm six feet two inches and weigh one hundred and forty-five pounds, I have butt length platinum blonde hair and eyes that are so blue you would think they were fake, I was told I could have easily made my way into the tight walls of the Preps, but thats just not me. I prefer to stay to myself and observe the student body from afar. I used to be a very open person but when I watched my father lay my mother on the floor infront of me and so carefully slide the blade of a kitchen knife across her throat as blood flooded the carpet, I started closing myself off from people. At the time I blacked out, after I woke, my mothers body was gone and so was my father and I've lived with my aunt, since then it's been eleven years, and I now live with my aunt Patty in district G7. Growing up with the thought of my mother on the floor has kept me in what some might call a shell, but for me its just perfect, and I fit very well under the feet, and under the radar of the student body, because whether I like it or not, i'm a shoe and I always will be.
Although someone like me may seem alone in this environment I'm not, I have a best friend named Aaron Russell and although I have some suspicion that he is gay, I refuse to say anything about it because I don't want to offend him. Aaron has been there for me from the start and I have been with him too. We have a bond that seems unbreakable, we are like brother and sister, he is just like me in everyway, we could even pass off as twins, but he is a few months older then me. He is seventeen and ever since his birthday he has acted kind of strange and I question if he finally lost his virginity because he has much more pride then before when the idea of sex is brought up. I joke around about it but I can never get a direct answer so I just leave it alone and hope that he will go back to the old Aaron I know and love. We have all the same classes with the exception of self defense. He takes art instead, so we go through the day almost unnoticed. Going from Calculus 2, Advanced History of the Colonys, Flight skills, Weapons Training, Farming, and lastly Out doors survival untill we split for our last class of the day. We take the type of classes that we do because our government fears that one day we will shut down and the world will go into chaos so they teach us ahead of time so we are prepared for what could be the end of time, or the end of our beautiful district G7. To me its all a load of bull shit, my birthday is in 2 months and I have no time to worry about what the future holds for us I'm to focused on surviving day by day trying to go unnoticed, trying not to piss off anyone so that I may go through Highschool unharmed and maybe one day have a family and kids and give them the life that I never had.
As the bell for first period starts to go off, I make my way to the red hall and meet up with Aaron for calculus and we enter the class room as if it were a normal day but as we sit down I notice something different, Chace felder has moved to the seat on the other side of Aaron and has a sly grin on his face, what could he be up to?
