Chapter 2
Three Months Later
(Continue Cameron)
Prosecutor: We call Davee Beckham to the stand..........She is Carly Parole officer and best friend
Prosecutor: Davee how long have you known Carly
Davee: Since we were in high school
Prosecutor: When did she start doing drugs
Davee: Around twelve then after the defendant was born she was sober for nine years and one day she relapsed
Prosecutor: When she was arrested for possession of illegal substances I understand you posted her bail can you tell the court why
Davee: I know it's not my place as her parole officer to do that but we went into different directions in life but that doesn't mean I didn't know her and I knew she didn't deserve prison she just needed help
Prosecutor: Has she ever stole from you or her family
Davee: A bunch of times
Prosecutor: But yet you stayed her friend why
Davee: She needed someone around when her family bailed
Cameron: We didn't bail on her she just wouldn't get her shit together
Judge: Language young lady
Davee: Your honor this might be out of place but may I explain to the jury and the defendant here the truth about Carly because she needs to know
Judge: Yeah whatever
Davee: Carly and I have been best friends since daycare I met her when I was three and she is the most kindest generous warmed hearted person I know but one day things change we became twelve and puberty hit and we got breast and hormones and hot teacher and he took advantage of Carly nine months later she gave birth to a baby girl and she is sitting in court room right now standing trail for murder. Carly had done crack while she was pregnant but once her baby came out healthy and alive she promised to get it together, she gave her rights and her parents took care of the baby and everything was going well until she was twenty and she got pregnant again by someone a little bit closer to home and that led to her relapse and her arrest and she got clean in prison but fell apart again when she was raped for the next few years by her dealer but this time was different she was actually getting clean but she was five months along and it was too late to abort she was about to get sober again and turn her life around and all that was taken away from her. That baby that was growing inside of her had a heart beat and was already two pounds and he will never get to see the light of day
I couldn't believe what I heard. After what Davee said about her she glared at me. I couldn't believe all this time my sister was my mom and the people that were raising me were my grandparents. My so called mom mouth the words sorry. I turned away and the rest of the trail went on in a blur until I was called to the stand.
Prosecutor: So can I ask why did you dislike Carly so much...........what did she deserve to be stabbed twenty seven times to the gut
Cameron: I just thought she was junkie and my family has a image to maintain, one time she was so high she tried to sell me to a dealer, and I was only ten and ever since then my feelings about her change but I would never kill her
Prosecutor: But you were the last one to see her alive.........from the looks of the hospital tape outside of the front doors you pushed her down and told her die
Cameron: Yeah but I didn't mean to
Prosecutor: No further questions your honor
Judge: Defendant may step down
Prosecutor: But but I didn't
Judge: I said step down Ms Rice
I can't believe everything that was happening right now. I was trying to tell them I ran off with my boyfriend to have sex but they weren't listening. I lost my virginity to him during spring break. But he lied and said we weren't together after we seen Carly at the hospital. All of my friends and boyfriend didn't even come to my trial. Anyways after hours of deliberating the jury was finally back with my fate.
Judge: On the charges of double homicide in the first degree how do you find the defendant
Juror: we find the defendant Carly Rice guilty on both counts of the indictment
Cameron: Can I say something your honor
Judge: Yeah sure
Cameron: Why does a jury even exist, we have a bunch of people complete strangers looking and hearing things about someone else life, like were they actually there to say if I'm guilty, I know my prints are on the knife but I don't know how and I know I told her die but I didn't mean it, a jury should not be able to say if someone guilty or not when they don't even know the story, I can be a bitch at times and I'm a rich spoiled brat but I would never kill anyone and I shouldn't have jury decide that for me. Just because someone looks guilty doesn't mean they are, I got beat yesterday and holding just because I took a shit while my bunk buddy was sleeping and I shouldn't have been there in the first place because I'm innocent
Judge: Well having a jury is part of our justice system little lady you could try and and change it but I doubt you will ever see freedom again
Cameron: But I don't have record what do you mean
Judge: You should have took a plea or hired a lawyer but I sentence you two counts of life in prison in maximum security prison
