Tossing and turning during sleep exhausted the redneck more than the actual events that played out during the day. How could anyone sleep for the reccomended hours during an apocalypse?
Daryl lay facing the stars, sitting up against a tree, inhaling the smoke from his freshly lit cigarette. Many said the redneck had not been the same since the death of his older brother Merle.
Suddenly he heard a quiet, friendly voice whisper "You should be asleep Mr Dixon. Come on, put that cigarette out and lay down. Trust me, you will thank me for it in the morning."
The voice came from the new member of the group, 21 year old Aaliyah Watson. Aaliyah hadn't had an easy life before the outbreak, but then again i don't suppose anyone did.As she crouched down beside the slightly older man, she tucked her long, dark hair behind her ear and looked at him with her beautiful dark eyes. She smiled at Daryl and playfully snatched his cigarrette and stomped it out; the only response she got from him was a slight chuckled followed by a playful punch on the arm. The punch, no matter how playful, still stung slightly and Aaliyah knew it would bruise.
"I ain't sleepin' girl. I ain't needing no sleep." Daryl said as he continued to look up at the stars. Aaliyah just shook her head and rested her head on his shoulder before eventually falling asleep herself.
There were many reasons for Daryl's lack of sleep. The main reason was so that he could keep watch and protect his group, Aaliyah in particular. But even if he wanted to sleep, he still wouldn't be able to due to the horror and the nightmares of his father beating the shit out of him as a kid, the death of his mother vividly replaying in his mind each night, followed by the PTSD that he had gained after seeing his brother turn into one of those biters.
As Aaliyah slept, Daryl kept gaurd however not wanting to get up as he secretly loved her sleeping on his shoulder. The pair were only friends but deep down they both wanted to be more. The redneck was not particularly one for talking or romance which made things difficult when talking with Aaliyah. He found it best just to keep quiet and let her talk.
The night passed and he didn't get a minute of sleep. He was first up, carching squirrels and cooking for the group's breakfast. He saw Aaliyah wake up and smiled at her gently before turning away to negotiate with Rick on where to set up camp next.
