Mia's POV
Mom dropped off Maddie at school first. She's going into 3rd grade.
Then we dropped off Melissa and Matthew at the High School. Melissa was going into 12th and Matthew 11th.
Next was my school, the 9th grade campus. It was separate from the big high school, in a totally different part of town. I was panicking.
"It's your first day of high school. Make it amazing!" My mom told me. "I will." I yelled back, jumping out of the car, Vera Bradley backpack and lunchbox in hand. I walked into the double doors of the Orlando 9th Grade Campus.
I searched my schedule and class information for my locker number. I was locker 1453. I found my way there, at the end of the main hallway. I then searched my info again for my combination. 13-56-34. I turned my lock and it clicked. I put what I wouldn't need in homeroom in my locker.
As soon as I shut it, my best friend Mona was standing behind the door. "You and Jake breaking up is like Miley becoming a wild child around this school. That's how shocking the news is." Mona reminded me. "Believe me Mona. It is to me too." I said.
I really hated talking about it, but I knew Mona wouldn't drop the subject. "Mona, I'll see you at lunch." I said with a slight smile. She nodded, obviously pissed, but walked the opposite direction.
She knew why I wanted her away.
I walked into my homeroom and of course, Jake was there. I sat the farthest I could from him and didn't make eye contact. I pulled out my phone and checked Instagram until the bell rang. I slipped it into the side pocket of my lunchbox and in walked the teacher.
It was a tall older man with a purple striped tie on and sharp glasses. "Hello class. I'm Mr. Taskino and I'm your homeroom and English II teacher. Usually homeroom will be the first 10 minutes of school, which is time for you to use the bathroom, get your supplies ready, finish up homework, which should actually not be allowed" he said, giving us a look, "and anything else you made need it for. Then you will report back here for 6th period. But today it will be extended since it is the first day and I will explain some things about the school. "
He then gave a long speech about rules and all the boring 'first day of school' basics. I glanced around the classroom at all the students.
There was Jake, of course, Julia Gaither, one of my distant friends, Caitlin Peeler, the star softball player, Hailey Shank, Varisty cheerleader, and Tanner Bates. Tanner had been my crush since day 1, but I don't know how long it will be until I can get over Jake, especially after what happened....
Flashback: Mia's POV
After that night with Jake, I knew our relationship would be the best.
It was. From that day on, our relationship went perfectly. Our first day was on our one month anniversary.
I had never really been a "one month'" type person, but I just couldn't resist Jake.
On January 17th, Jake and I went to the movies and then to one of my favorite restaurants which was Chipotlé. He knew just how to make a perfect day.
Since I had lost Bethany, Jake was my new partner for the weekends. We hung out at his house, doing usual couple things, such as laying around with the occasional act of kissing. (Dillon may have taken my first kiss, but I would have rather kissed Jake a trillion times).
Then, it came. The day when all the sudden, it didn't fit.
Jake and I got into fights all of the time; it wasn's a new ordeal. This one, on the other hand, was different.
Jake was angry that I had spent the day with one of my close family friends, who happened to be a boy, at the lake and not invited him. I told him I had just wanted some time apart, since we had been joined at the hip since summer began, but he didn't buy it . I never figured out why he didn't trust me, but apparently he had his reasons. That night, he called me and told me that he didn't want to be with me anymore. He loved me, but he was disappointed.
I never really got over it. A month later, sitting here in front of him, I didn't know how I was going to be able to handle this school year with him.
