Just my own little twist on one of the many Tomb Raider stories... (shall I say, very loosely based)
this is part one of two(maybe?)
"Right there. Through the Dragon's Triangle."
"You must be out of your fucking mind if you think I'm taking my boat through there." An absolutely livid young boat captain glared at the even younger explorer in front of him. Said young explorer had his finger firmly placed on a small, unidentified island in the corner of the worn map. The island in question was dead in the center of what was infamously known as the Dragon's Triangle.
No boat had gone in and returned unscathed- or returned at all, for that matter. There was no number to put to the amount of survivors because there simply were none to count. It was riddled with violent storms and raging seas, deadly in every aspect. If (and when) your ship gave way, you would be subjected to the ice cold water of the sea and the creatures that resided within.
The chances of survival? None.
So the mere thought of bringing his boat, the boat that he had inherited from his late father, into that death trap was puzzling, alarming, and infuriating.
"Taehyung, just listen-"
"That's Captain Kim to you, kid." The irked captain narrowed his eyes at the young, frazzled looking explorer before him.
Said young explorer ignored the interjection. "-I think I'm on to something here!"
"Oh, yeah? And what's suddenly wrong with the island we're en-route to right now? I thought that was your big break." Taehyung scoffed.
"Yamatai is practically lost to the world! No one knows its exact location and I think it being rumored to be in the heart of the Dragon's Triangle is exactly why!" Jungkook explained, adrenaline rushing through his veins.
Taehyung crossed his arms. "Because everyone dies, Jeon." He rolled his tongue against the inside of his cheek.
It was astounding that Jungkook was even arguing this. The moment he showed up on Taehyung's boat begging for a ride to some uncharted island, the young captain could practically see intelligence oozing from him. The way that he chattered on and on about Himiko the 'Death Queen' and her lost island of Yamatai, and the way he relayed every bit of information discovered by his father before him without boring Taehyung, was more than enough proof of his abundance of knowledge.
So why was he being so stupid right now?
Jungkook straightened up and put his hands on his hips. "We won't."
Oh my God.
"And how can you promise that?"
"I'm a Jeon." Jungkook winked. "One time I got speared in the side by a native in the jungle around some Incan ruins and I survived the whole week with just a flask of water and some dirty bandages."
Taehyung wrinkled his nose. "Disgusting..."
"And impressive." Jungkook shrugged. "I mean, sure, I had to go to the doctor immediately after getting home but I survived, didn't I? Point is, the chances of survival here are up by 5% when you're with me."
"So our chance of survival is 5%. Comforting." Taehyung faked a smile and turned to leave the boat cabin, but Jungkook grabbed his arm.
Taehyung turned and looked at the boy, staring at him dully. Jungkook was barely 23 years old; the kid should be out with friends and having fun, and definitely not be plunging himself into seriously fatal situations.
