Evelyn's Pov
We took our first steps into our completely unpacked new home, as a new married couple. I was about to begin dinner when Joseph, my husband, suggested that we meet the new neighbors. With my coat in hand, we started towards the door. Joseph and i linked arms as we skipped off to meet our neighbors who lived to the right of our house.Joseph knocked on the door and waited a few seconds, for a response. Nothing. He knocked again, louder this time. "Alright, I'm coming!" Could be heard from inside the house. A tall woman opened the door. Wow. She was so different. I couldn't help but stare. "Ey there." She said, flashing me a smile. Heat rushed to my cheeks as I got the urge to giggle. I looked down, shyly.
"We're the new neighbors." Joseph smiled but he seemed taken back by the woman's appearance. She had short hair, a masculine haircut. She didn't seem to dress like the average woman. She had on khaki pants which she rolled up at the ends showing her ankles, a thick black belt, beige work boots, and a tight black shirt that was tucked into her pants. The outfit really showed off her curves. "Oh sure... come on in," she said, taking a puff of a cigar in between.
Joseph gripped my waist as he stepped inside. I was pulled inside too. "I'm Rowan, and that over there is my husband, Jack." She introduced as she shut the door behind me. "I'll take your coat, sweetheart." She grinned at me before helping it off of me. She disappeared into another room with my coat.
Jack got up from the couch. He walked towards us. He shook Josephs hand, aggressively. "I'm Jack," he said, or more like yelled. "Joseph." He stated. "And this is my wife, Evelyn." He gave my waist a squeeze. "What a pretty name." Rowan appeared again. I smiled in response. "Come in! Sit down!" Jack yelled. He was so loud. "Rowan is supposed to start dinner here soon, Aren't ya? " He asked as if telling her to do so. "Which you are welcome to stay for." He smiled.
Joseph smiled, "Evelyn can help." He said, volunteering me. I hated it when he did that. I just smiled in response. "Alright, come with me." She smiled, leading me into the kitchen. "So whatcha making, eh?" She leaned against the counter, directing the question towards me. "I'm sorry?" Confusion filled my eyes. "Relax, I'm kidding." She gave a small laugh. "Oh, okay," I breathed out, in relief. "Im not really in the mood for cooking, are you?" She asked. I was taken back by that. "But your husband... he-" she cut me off. "So? He doesn't control me. I consider myself the Chatelaine. The woman of the house." She stated, confidently. "Well, I..." I was at a loss of words. She was so in charge, I admired her for that. She didn't take orders.

Joseph's Pov
He welcomed me to sit on the couch, along with him. "She's quite a handful, isn't she?" I asked, making conversation. "Yeah," he said. "She moves at her own pace." He added. "Well, how do you mean?" I was interested to know. She seemed difficult. "Well, she never listens," he started. "She hardly cooks or cleans. She doesn't want children, she won't produce me, my boy, I've always wanted. Any time I suggest that we..." he leaned in. "You know... " he said in a whisper. "She always makes excuses." He puffed."They seem to get along great," I said. Looking into the kitchen. They seemed to be having a great time. "You better keep an eye on her, you don't want her to pick up any of Rowan's habits." He gave a small laugh. "Do you think?" I asked, concerned. "Evelyn's the perfect wife." A smile crept to my lips. "She cooks for me without being asked. She cleans up after me." I was lost in thought. "She sounds great. Is she willing to have kids?" He asked. "Well, yeah that's what she's there for." I laughed as if it were obvious. He looked down in frustration.
We heard laughing coming from the kitchen. We made our way into the kitchen to check out what they were doing. "What's going on?" I walked in with a smile on my face. They seemed to be happy. Rowan had Evelyn's hands in hers, as they had a conversation. They sure were becoming good friends. "Yeah, what's going on!?" He sounded angry, that wasn't my intention, to interrogate them, they didn't seem to be doing anything wrong.
Evelyn jumped at the sound of Jacks loud voice. They turned to face him. "We were having a conversation," Rowan said, with an attitude. Wow. I thought. She really has no respect for her husband. "That's fine," he said. "Why is there no cooking happening?!" He asked he was all worked up. Was it really that big of a deal? I'm sure they'd get around to it. It was still early. "We'll get to that. Right now, I'm having a conversation with my friend." She said, firmly. "Rowan, please, we have guests, do not make me raise my voice." He said. "I'm not going to ask you again. Please, start dinner." He muttered through his teeth. Breathing heavily.
He needed to calm down. "Hey, Jack breath." I requested as I demonstrated with my hands an up and down motion. He ran his hands through his hair. I guided him into the living room, away from His wife and Evelyn. "I know what your problem is," I said calmly. "Me too, it's her!" He yelled. He, seriously, was taking this over the top. "Jack, hey, calm down," I said, in a calm voice. "Well, what is it then?" He sat down, in his hands was a bear. Now that I think of it, this was his 7th drink. "Well, to start off, it could be that," I said in a sigh, pointing to the drink in his hand. "This? Nah. Was there something else?" He took a sip. As he held the large glass to his lips, slowly, i brought it down and helped it out of his hands. "No more. That's too many." With that said I placed it down. "You need to respect your wife, and she'll respect you too, Jack." His eyebrows connected. He motioned for me to go on.
"Well, you seem to get angry very quickly. Women talk, and sometimes that distracts them from what they're doing. Be polite. Apologize, say please and thank you."
His lips pressed together as if he was thinking about it. "That's what you do?" He asked. "Yes," I said. "Well, I'll give it a try, but Rowan isn't like any other woman, so if it doesn't work, nothing will." He said, finalizing it.

Rowan's Pov
"You know, he's constantly telling me I don't do nothin' for him. What has he ever done for me?" I said as I aggressively pushed the food around. "Eh? No seriously. He has never done anything for me. He expects me to do everything he says, right when he says it!" I yelled out. She pushed her lips together, thinking of a response. "Does he work?" She asked, softly, probably scared of making me madder. I pouted my lips to the side. I knew what she was gonna say. "Yes," I said, quietly. "And he handles the finances?" She challenged. She had a smirk plastered all over her face, as one eyebrow raised. I couldn't help but smile at her playfulness.I looked down. "Yes." I groaned playfully. "You don't have to live with Jack, so you don't know" I laughed. She smiled at me. I smiled in return, feeling a tingling feeling in my stomach. What is that? I thought.
I shoved the food into the oven. "That's what he does for you. He provides all your shoes, your place to live," she said. "I still think its unfair how he treats me." I sighed. "Oh yeah, totally. " she laughed. "But you just said-" she cut me off "I never said he wasn't a pig, he is. All men are." She was right. As much as I love Jack, he's a pig, all men are. "Sometimes I wish I didn't have to get married to one." I breathed out.
"Me either. Life would be so perfect if men just didn't exist." A smile crept to her lips. I nodded in agreement. "If women could marry women." I thought out loud.
Evelyn appeared to be taken back by what I said. "No, that could never be." She shut my idea down. "But wouldn't it be nice?" I asked her, hoping I wasn't the only one who felt that way. She looked at the ground and smiled. "No, I couldn't live without Joseph." She said. I sighed at that. There was a pain in my chest.
.
"You really love him," I stated the fact. She wouldn't even consider. I guess it could never happen anyways. She nodded and smiled at me. I forced a smile in return. This is just the first part...
