History: At the short age of five, Tony turned to electornics as a way to cope with the tense relationship with Howard. The man's mood swings and drinking problem eventually turned into verbal abuse. Tony was sent to a boarding school at age seven and joined an undergraduate program in MIT at age 15 to graduate as class valedictorian. At 21 he inherited Stark Industries at the passing of his parents in a car crash which he turned it from solely a munitions firm to a multi-national corporation with a range of interests covering virtually all types of contemporary scientific industry, and the leader at the cutting edge of electronics.
Later, at military demonstation in Afghanistan, he tripped a booby trap that killed his escort and lodged shrapnel in his chest. The gravely injured Stark was taken captive by the terrorist leader Wong-Chu, who conditioned him to build a powerful weapon if he wanted a solution to the shrapnel that would eventually kill him. Stark designed and built an electrically powered suit of armor with a pacemaker-like device that enabled Stark's heart to keep beating and escaped enemy territory successfully.
Stark was instrumental in the organization and armament of the original global intelligence and law-enforcement agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D.. As Iron Man, he became an founding member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the team of super-human champions known as the Avengers
