John and I say a quick goodbye to dad before he's flown off in the Quinjet with Mrs Hudson.
"This is something I never thought I'd have to do again," John admits as he loads his weapons. "Thought I'd put the battlefield behind me."
I smile sympathetically. "I never thought I'd be going to war. New York was a bit of surprise, but it seems I've barely stopped fighting. Both mentally and physically. The war goes on."
"Avengers," Cap says, coming to the front. "For the moment, we have the element of surprise. That won't last long. As soon as that helicopter returns to Strucker, there'll be an army out here. The plan is to infiltrate the base and take back Loki's sceptre." He nods. "Good luck."
Stark suits up beside me, his armor flying forward and attaching itself to him, before he takes off. Thor spins Mjolnir and flies off, and Cap sets off on his bike. John and I jump in the Land Rover with Nat and Clint, and we drive off after him.
Within minutes, we're met by HYDRA soldiers. Another Land Rover comes towards us, and John has leaned out and shot the driver and the other soldier on board before Hawkeye can even load his bow. The car skids towards us.
"John, with me!" I call, opening the car door and leaning out as the car hurtles towards us. Just before impact, Nat pulls our car around and I jump the gap between us, landing on the side as the car continues to move forwards. I climb onto the roof as John lands beside me a moment later and steers the car around from outside, pushing the driver's body out with his other hand, before sliding into the drivers seat.
"That was mental!" John pants, pulling us around and following after Nat. I slide into the open window in the roof of the Land Rover, but remain standing up to look out.
"There's quite a few of them out here," I say, shooting down the bikes that come toward us. "I think we might be needing a little help in a minute."
"You mean Code Green?" Nat says over the comms.
"It's looking like it," I reply, firing again as a soldier leaps onto the car. His armor and weapons are enhanced, making him and all the other soldiers we're fighting much more powerful than us. The bullet barely punctures his suit, but the force of it is enough to knock him off the car.
"Cap?" Nat says, still over comms. "You call it."
He takes a moment before answering. "Yeah, sorry Bruce. Code Green."
"I'm on it," he replies, and he begins to cry out as he mutates.
"Hey Sophie," Clint says as we come up beside him and Nat. "You haven't got a name yet."
"How d'you mean?" I ask.
"Well, we've all got aliases," he continues. "Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America et cetera. Seeing as you're pretty much an Avenger that you should have one too - John too if you want?"
I laugh. "What were you thinking?"
"'Black Cat' would be good," he replies thoughtfully. "You're smart, quick and deadly."
"Not sure what cats you've encountered Barton," Stark replies. "No, you want something punchy like 'Swift'."
I narrow my eyes. "You've actually discussed this, haven't you?"
John laughs from inside the car and I hit him gently.
"That was a pretty 'Swift' deduction," Stark replies.
"Wow, Stark," I say, smiling in disbelief. "Smooth. I think I'll make do unless anyone has any other bright ideas!"
There's a 'thump' behind me as someone else lands on the roof of the car, but before I can shoot he's taken out by Thor who flies over the top.
