Marie's POV
March 13: Dad's Birthday
Dad's birthday is today. Today was the day dad died. My dad left for a business trip for the company he worked for. Apparently when he was gone, we got a call from a doctor in Scotland.
*Flashback*
Mom and I were having dinner. My favorite meal she cooked for us specifically because it was dad's birthday. Family tradition for us to have my favorite meal for some reason. A ringing was coming from the home phone.
"Marie can you get that please?"
"Yes mom."
Running from the living room couch I grab the phone and answer.
"Hello?"
"Hello is this Sara?"
"No this is Marie."
"Are you the daughter of Alexander Shais?"
"Yes I am."
"Would you mind grabbing your mother for this ma'am?"
"Sure I'll go grab her."
"Alright ma'am."
I place the phone down and rush to grab my mom. She was in the kitchen still preparing the meal. She must have heard my running and looked at me worried and startled.
"Hon is everything ok?"
"Someone on the phone wants to talk to us. It's about dad."
"Alright."
She then walks over to the phone with me. She picks up the phone. She then places the phone against her ear.
"Hello?......Yes this is she.......ok?........No....it can't be....."
Tears then roll down her face and she then places the phone down. Her eyes were filled with sadness and heart break. Her eyes became dull and dark. Whilst placing the phone down she then began to walk to the stairs and make her way up them. I grab the phone and place it against my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hello? Is this Sara or Marie?"
"Marie sir."
"Okay ma'am but I've informed your mother of your father's condition. It's hard to say but he's gone ma'am."
"He's what?!"
"He's dead ma'am. I'm sorry. We will ship the last of what was unharmed from the accident."
"Accident?"
"A semi-truck didn't see your dad crossing the street. He was hit by the truck as it was going 60mph. I'm sorry for your lose ma'am."
"It's....fine. Please ship what was recovered as soon as possible please."
"Of course."
"Thanks."
"No problem ma'am. Have a peaceful night."
"You too."
I place the phone on it's dock and I make my way to the kitchen and clean up the half made meal. Whilst finishing that, I made my way to my room. I grab my phone and call my best friend Angel. After the first two rings she picks up.
"Hello?"
"A-Angel?" I sniffle and tears roll down my cheeks. My eyes filled with watery tears.
"Omg Marie what's wrong?"
"My dad....he's gone."
"Oh my goodness! Marie do you need me to come over?"
"Please..."
"I'll be over in a few minutes."
"Hurry please."
"Alright see you soon bye."
She hangs up and I sit and wait, curled up in a ball, sobbing under a thin, soft, and comfy blanket. After a few minutes pass the doorbell rings. I get up and head to the front door and opening it. Angel gives me a hug and proceeds to comfort me. I cry into her shirt and just sob telling her it should've been me and not him. My father was everything to me and now he's gone. He's not coming back. But why?! Why today?! Why...me?!
"He shouldn't have left! It should've been me not him! Why...? Why...."
I ended up crying on her shoulder all night till I fell asleep.
*Flashback ends*
Ever since then I've never talked to anyone except for Angel. She's the only I talked to since that incident. In class I don't talk, anyone who talks to me I say nothing back. I've become a nobody since that day. My mother turned twisted since that day. It hurts to see her hurting on the inside but she won't let me help her. She made me a lie and sees me as the person who pushed him into going to get himself killed. It hurts to be like this. it hurts to see my mom act like this. I wish she would've just listened to me. Listen to what I have to say and how I can help her. I love my mom but she's making me hate her. I don't like it at all. I want to love her I need to love her but she just pushes me away and tells me I'm nothing. But I am still strong for me, my dad, and my friends. My past may haunt me but I won't let it consume me.
