Chapter 1
"Avery!" Cailynn yelled, searching through the dark cabin for her sister. "AVERY!?" She was sobbing now, calling her sister's name. "Cailynn?" Avery's voice asked. Thunder boomed. "Ave! Thank god I found you!" Lightning struck and Cailynn could see a small skinny girl, she was defiantly not Avery, she had what looked like green scales covering her body, and her fingernails were long, red claws. She wore a giant leaf poncho. She smiled revieling long fang like teeth. "Hello, Cailynn." Said the girl in Avery's voice and she reached out and touched Cailynn's arm. Hot, white pain surged through her body. She could feel her back ripping apart and her brain was exploding. Her heart felt like it set on fire and all she could see was white. She heard the girl cackle and her footsteps carried away with the wind. Cailynn was writhing on the floor screaming and sobbing. She forgot everything.
Avery was sitting in her bed, listening to the rumbling thunder and watching the lightning strike down near the river. The power went out and she heard her name being called. She got up and started to yell a response when something grabbed her ankle and she felt the worst pain she had ever felt in her life. She remembered the worst things that happened to her, her heart was pounding faster then it had ever pounded before, and then, it stopped all together. She forgot everything.
Avery and Cailynn sat up in opposite sides of the cabin. Memories flooded back into their minds. Cailynn started sobbing, and Avery got up and looked around. It was getting lighter outside as Avery started searching the cabin for odd happenings, but she found none. When she got downstairs, she heard sobbing, and she followed the noise. Sitting on the floor was Cailynn, she was sure of that, but she had large deep blue wings sticking out of the back of her ripped tee shirt and, she had a deep blue mark on her arm. She looked up at Avery.
"A-Avery?" she asked timidly staring up at her friend.
"Yeah?" asked Avery, trying to calm Cailynn down. Cailynn was over emotional and cried all the time.
"Wh-why do you have purple wings?" she started crying again. Avery gasped. She felt behind her and sure enough she had soft purple wings stretched out behind her.
"You have blue ones." Avery pointed out to Cailynn, who flinched and touched her wings.
"Ave, something happened last nigh, a girl, w-with scales touched m-my arm and it burned, and I thought I was gonna die!" Cailynn exclaimed, throwing her arms up in the air.
"Oh my god." Avery gasped. "That same thing happened to me last night, except, I didn't know what touched me."
"B-but Ave," Cailynn explained. "The scaley girl had the same voice as you." Avery gasped.
"Are you serious? That's so creepy." Avery thought for a second. "Cai, we have to do something. We're going to go find those things that burned us and gave us these wing." She said, getting determined to find the creatures.
"A-alright," Cailynn finally agreed. Avery smiled. They walked out the door of the cabin.
"Woah."
When Cailynn and Avery walked out the door, it was like a whole new world. They notised things they never saw before. There were people with wings riding unicorns and pegasi, there were wild unicorn mothers tending for their children, there were dragons, small pocket sized ones, and large fire breathing monsters. They saw the winged people blasting things with their hands and battling monsters. Fairies flew by their heads and pixies played pranks, elves were dancing on tree stumps, mermaids were singing, and they could hear music in the back round.
"Woah." They said again.
Some winged people turned and looked at them. They started whispering. Cailynn and Avery looked at each other. A winged girl who looked about the age of thirteen, the same age as Avery, escaped her clique, and came up to them.
"Are you new?" she asked Avery.
"Yeah, I don't know what happened to us I-"
"What did it look like? The one that touched you?" The winged girl interrupted.
"Well, I'm not sure what the one that touched me looked like, but the one that touched her had scales or something." Avery answered.
"It had green scales, and it had Avery's voice, it had red claws and bright purple hair, and yellow fangs, and-"
"Esmereld." The winged girl interrupted Cailynn.
"Is that bad?" Cailynn asked with a worried tone in her voise.
"It is very bad." Answered the winged girl.
