Chapter 2
The sun was shining bright once again, but dark storm clouds formed in the distance next to the other clouds in the sky. Maxine hoped that maybe it would start raining and she could collect some water that she was running awfully low on.
Maxine sat up, frowning at the heat of the car and looked around. She saw that there was one of the things a bit away from her car and she sighed, opening the door which caused it to stumble its way towards her. She muttered complaints under her breath and tied her jacket around her waist, slinging her bag around her shoulders.
She let out a sigh and took out one of her daggers, walking towards it and twisted to the side before its rotting hands could grab her. "Piece of shit," she muttered and reached up, grabbing the hair on what used to be a woman's head to stab the sharp blade into its skull.
She cringed at the slight squishing sound coming from it's head, avoiding the body as it fell. "Gross," she mumbled as thick brain juice leaked onto the black concrete of the road.
Maxine began to walk, the road in front of her a dark black while next to it was green grass and then trees on both sides.
She walked and walked until the trees turned into old buildings that looked like they were once road side stores that maybe were tourist attractions, or a mechanic shops that helped fix broken down cars that probably were passing.
Before she knew it she was heading into a small town, that looked quite nice. Maybe she could find water or more food in one of the houses or small stores. So she began walking, taking out the small watch she had that wasn't really a watch at all. It had the same strap that could be on her wrist, but instead it had the face of a compas and told the direction. Honestly, it was just a cheap toy she had one at an arcade for her brother birthday but it got the job done. At least for now anyway. She noted that she was still going south and put the small watch away, heading for the small town.
Max sighed as she looked ahead of her, her hands holding the straps to her backpack as she put one foot in front of the other. She looked around her, trying to spot any threats in her path but she didn't see anything; the only thing that could be heard was the chirping of birds who were singing their own tune, and the footsteps of her feet on the cement.
Before she knew it, she made it to the town. In front of here there were multiple buildings, and with the building were multiple zombies both inside and outside. She gasped as she quickly found cover, leaning against the brick wall before they noticed her.
"Shit," she cursed under her breath as she heard the sounds coming from them all. Bones cracking, their throats releasing a moan like sound as their vocal chords were rotting, the scrapping of their feet, and the faint pounding of her heart in her chest.
She hasn't seen this many in a while in one area and it worried her, bringing up bad memories that she would rather forget.
Maxine's back was pressed against the brick wall and she slowly made her way to the side of the building that looked like a house. She continued with this, quickly moving from building to building to only pause when she noticed the storm clouds moving over head, releasing a roar of loud thunder after a shock of electricity in the distance.
Her body jumped as she wasn't expecting it to be so loud but she froze as the things let out loud moans. The only time she's heard them do that was when they were aware of people being there and her stomach dropped. They must have known she was there, probably smelling her or something. She didn't know how they worried and didn't want to get close enough to find out.
She looked around, her eyes frantically moving as she needed cover, the closest building being an old McDonalds that had a broken window in the front.
