"Adorable."
Todoroki Shouto had heard his newly established boyfriend mumble. He hadn't actually said it to anyone in particular, but it was surprisingly loud enough to be heard by him through the noise of the bustling cafe.
"Excuse me?" He asked, tilting his head in a manner that made the green-haired boy lose his composure.
"There it is again! You did it again!" Midoriya pointed and clutched at the fabric of his chest, his sweater tightening visibly near his fist. Todoroki didn't understand; what was he doing?
He huffed, crossing his arms for what seemed to be the twentieth time that day.
"Why do you do that?"
"Do what?" Todoroki replied through a sip of tea, accompanied by a raised brow.
Midoriya gestured to all of him, Todoroki staring back with slited, suspicious eyes. The other stirred at his drink, pursing his lips at the blank slate of an expression his boyfriend had.
"I'm still not so sure on what you're getting at."
"For All Might's sake, Todoroki," He sounded exasperated, like he had been trying to explain a simple problem to an extremely dense person. It was what he was doing right now actually, though he would never call Todoroki dense in real life, it was still quite evident that he was. "You're actually killing me here."
A small laugh escaped his lips, while the other griped internally over how to explain it properly without having it fly over his head.
"Hey, come on now. I don't think he would appreciate me bringing back his dead student." Todoroki teased and placed a small nudge to the top of his head, which was now laying on the booth's table.
"No, just leave me here, make sure All Might doesn't see my room." He moaned, not bothering to pick up a sugar packet he had accidentally dropped on the floor.
"Midoriya, you're making a scene."
Midoriya offered a muffled response in return, making Todoroki sigh with a dramatically long exhalation.
"I don't think I caught that." He said, using a hand to brush away a few stray hairs from his ears.
"You're adorable." Midoriya finally blurted out, snapping his head up from it's previous position.
A few patrons turned their heads to the sudden noise, but then went back to their interactions when it didn't have another shout to back it up with. The drone of the cafe resumed, but the current attitude from the two boys had gone from playful to a mixture of embarrassment and revelation.
Midoriya's face had erupted into a magnificent blush. He frantically waved his hands, mouth trying to find an excuse and apologize at the same time for his outburst, but they just ended up jumbling together into incoherent fragments. It was no use, so instead of making himself look worse, he clamped his mouth shut while his hands went into his lap, eyes going down with them.
Todoroki on the other hand didn't seem to have a particular reaction. Sure, he had blinked once or twice, but other than that he was completely silent.
A few awkward moments had passed before either of them opened their mouths.
"So that's what you were talking about earlier!" His palms slammed down onto the table, rattling their cups and silverware. Midoriya noticeably jumped, his turn to be startled at Todoroki's epiphany.
"You called me cute!"
"Adorable, is the actual term, but yes. I did." He corrected.
Todoroki leaned back in the booth's chair as far as he could, overtaken by the urge to hide his now reddening face from his boyfriend. He grumbled a thing or two, making him laugh.
"I'm not adorable." He puffed out his cheeks, diverting his attention to a waitress that was walking by with their check. She set it down politely, asking them to take all the time they need. He took out his wallet, but was stopped by Midoriya.
"Don't worry, I have this." The greenette smiled, with a wink that made his heart flutter.
"Didn't you pay last time? It's my turn." He argued.
"Oh no, you don't. Today was my idea, so I get to pay." Midoriya retorted, pulling a few bills from his signature All Might themed wallet. He had asked him a long time ago where he keeps getting his merchandise from, but was only met with shrug and an invitation to go for ice cream later.
"Remind me to not go on another date with you if you keep doing this." He chuckled, drinking the last of his before cleaning up where he sat.
"That's mean, Todoroki! Can't I be a good boyfriend?" Midoriya whined, leaning himself over the table. "Y'know, if you had taken me on a date, you would have spoiled me with that endless credit card of yours." He muttered while pouting. Well, he did have a point. Todoroki was known for his urge to splurge on gifts wherever they go, it be a movie theater, a carnival. He even found a way to spend nearly $300 on tickets at the arcade, prompting Midoriya to use a garbage bag so he could hold all the prizes they won. If Todoroki had a hidden talent no one knew about except him, it would be arcade games.
"That doesn't mean you get to run yourself dry." Todoroki sat up from his seat, the other doing the same as they walked out of the cafe hand in hand, leaving the money on the table.
"Sure, Mr. Moneybags." He stuck his tongue out, making him laugh quietly.
"What am I, that guy from Monopoly?"
"No, you're way more adorable than him."
"Stop saying that!"
