A City of Glass Fan Fiction:

                                                                   Deeply Loved

"Alec had his arms around Magnus and was kissing him, full on the mouth." - Cassandra Clare, City of Glass Ch. 18 Pg. 423

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." - Lao Tzu

Alec was searching the crowded room, half listening to what Simon and Isabelle were saying, but also looking half intently to see if he could find Magnus. Since he had heard about this binding rune, the thought of being partners with Magnus had occurred to him. And frankly, he wasn't thinking about what it might mean to his parents. He had seen plenty of other Shadowhunters pair with warlocks and other Downworlders of the same gender. That sounded odd, even to think, but it was true. Alec just wasn't sure how exactly he was going to phrase the question. He wished Clary would Mark him with the Fearless rune again.

Having vaguely heard what they were talking about - something about Jace's father - Alec turned his head back to pay attention for a moment, "So whose son is he?" he asked, an eyebrow raised skeptically. Simon looked past Alec toward his parents, whom were standing aside from them after Simon had asked to speak to them privately. Alec hadn't known what Simon could possibly say that was more important than finding Magnus, but he was glad by what he was hearing and also by the fact that Simon had given him the chance away from his parents. It was easier that way.

"Who cares!" Isabelle exclaimed, but instantly frowned, as if something had suddenly dawned on her, and Alec realized, despite not truly caring who his parabatai was the son of, that the Clave would need to know this bit of information as soon as the battle was over. Especially if they were able to defeat Valentine, "Actually, that's a good point. Who was his father? Michael Wayland after all?" Isabelle finished.

"Stephen Herondale." At this point, Alec stopped looking for Magnus for one moment to comment on that aspect of the conversation. It was actually interesting.

"So he was the Inquisitor's grandson." He said, "That must be why she - ." but he broke off when he caught sight of a blue spark in the distance, dancing on someone's fingertips. Magnus?

Isabelle sighed in frustration and demanded to know what the Inquisitor had done, what she had said rather. She told him to pay attention, as if he wasn't already. He did hear what they were saying, his eyes just weren't exactly looking at them. Alec rolled his eyes and turned back to his sister, after she demanded to know what he was looking for.

"Not what. Who." He replied, "Magnus. I wanted to ask him if he'd be my partner in the battle. But I've no idea where he is. Have you seen him?" Alec asked Simon only because of his vampire sight, as well as the fact that he had just come from speaking with Clary upon the dais, and that was a better lookout spot from where they were currently standing. Alec may have been tall, but there were far too many people crowding the Accords Hall that day.

Looking behind him, Simon replied that he had been on the dais, but wasn't at that moment. And of course, his sister took that opportunity to ask Alec if he was going to ask Magnus to be his partner. He was actually glad that his sister approved of...well, whatever was going on between him and the warlock, but sometimes she could get a bit...overzealous. Already knowing Alec's answer, she turned to Simon and made a comment about a cotillion, and how she might ask him to be her partner. Alec didn't want to hear anymore, and frowned.
