Lyra pov

'Firs Yers come with me this way urry up!' A rather large man who I believed to be Hagrid called. 'You alright there 'arry? ' he asked, yep definitely Hagrid. 'All of you in a boat 4 to one boat.' He called, me and Harry got in one after the crowd parted, we saw Ron with three other boys he looked like he'd made friends with so we just left him and got in a boat. 'So it's true then, the famous Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts?' I turned around and saw the blond git from Eelops Owl Emporium. 'Oh it's just you,' I said with a sigh. 'Oh it's just the girl who thinks she's more pure blood than me.' He said whilst a pug faced girl snickered behind him, I shot him a glare 'I don't think so, I know so.' I said with sass. 'Oh really then, what pure blood family do you come from? I just so happen to come from the Malfoy family.' I laughed at his remark thinking he's more pure blood than a black. 'Think my names funny do you? Go on let's hear yours.' He said like a snob. 'No I'm laughing about how your family is a pathetic knock of version on mine.' Harry laughed at this, I don't even think he knows what it means but hey, he found it funny. 'Yeah and what family do you come from.' He said with a devilish smirk 'I guess you'll have to find that out.' I said returning the smirk.

We had just arrived so we could finally get out and leave the rodent, Ron had waited for us in the entrance hall. Ron introduced us to his new friends. 'I'm Seamus!' They boy said cheerfully extending his hand for me to shake I took his hand and shook it. 'I'm half and half me mams a witch me dads a muggle bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out like.' I giggled 'Lyra Black' I said turning my head to the other boy. 'I'm Neville L-Longbottom.' He said going red I gave him a friendly smile, the other boy looked like he was about to introduce himself when he was suddenly pushed out the way. 'I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.' He said Ron laughed at this. 'Think my names funny do you? No need to ask yours, Red hair and a hand me down robe, you must be a Weasley. You'll find some wizarding  familys better than others Potter, I can help you there.' He said extending his arm to Harry. 'yeah like mines better than yours' I whispered he must have heard me as he shot me a look and was about to say something until. 'I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself thanks.' Harry said bluntly. Then a teacher with emerald robes and a tight bun hit Draco on the shoulder with some parchment. 'We're ready for you now.' She said ushering us into the hall.

We walked to the front where there was a stool with a manky hat singing.

'Oh, you may not think that I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts sorting hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The sorting hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've got a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps Slytherin
You'll make real friends,
Those Cunning folk use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a thinking cap!'

The whole hall burst into applause and the hat bowed to every table. Professor McGonagall started reading names off the list.
' Abbot, Hannah!'
' HUFFLEPUFF!'
' Black, Lyra!'
I walked up I was extremely nervous but wouldn't let it show, once seated I looked down at Draco who looked shocked I smirked at him and then I heard the sorting hat mumble. 'Difficult, very Difficult... Hmmmm Lots of loyalty and some kindness but Hufflepuffs not for you. Loads of bravery I see, You'd do well in Gryffindor but that's not where you really belong.' my heart sank at this.
'SLYTHERIN!'
I slid of the stool. Oh god this can't be right. I took a seat at the Slytherin table and Draco turned around and smiled at me. Not a smirk a smile. What's wrong with him? I smiled back not knowing what to do and shook hands with the Slytherin Prefect and continued watching the sorting whilst Ron and Harry kept turning to me giving worried looks.
'Bones, Susan!'
'HUFFLEPUFF!'
Honestly now I'm sitting at the Slytherin table, Hufflepuff wouldn't be so bad right now.
'Boot, Terry!'
'RAVENCLAW!'
'Brockelhurst, Mandy!'
'Brown, Lavender!'
'GRYFFINDOR!'
Oh why couldn't I just been a Gryffindor, I bet none of the Weasleys or Harry will like me anymore.
'Bulstrode, Millicent!'
'SLYTHERIN!'
Ugh I don't like the look of her.
'Finch-Fletchley, Justin!'
'HUFFLEPUFF!'
'Finnigan, Seamus!'
OK maybe he'll be a Slytherin then I'll have someone I know.
'GRYIFFINDOR!' damn it.
'Granger, Hermione!'
'GRYFFINDOR!'
'Longbottom, Neville!'
Definitely a Hufflepuff.
'GRYFFINDOR!'
Ok so the hats broken.
'Malfoy, Draco!'
Before the hat even touched his head the hat already decided.
'SLYTHERIN!'
He smiled at me, ok what is happening. He walked over and sat next to me he offered his hand out I looked at it for a few seconds before shaking it and proceeding to watch the sorting. The ceremony dragged I got so bored that I actually started talking to Draco until I heard McGonagall call.
'Potter, Harry!'
The hat took its time I was hoping he'd be Slytherin but no.
GRYFFINDOR!'
It was quite a while it seemed whilst talking to Draco until Ron's name was called.
'Weasleys, Ronald!'
GRYFFINDOR!'
I'd expected that.

Actually the more I talked to Draco the less of an ass he seemed but the whole time through the feast I felt like I was being watched, I looked up to see if it was Harry or Ron but no... It was a distant third year Hufflepuff. He smiled at me and I smiled back. 'Who's that?' Draco asked anger in his voice. 'No idea.' I said hiding a smile
