How can such a short question change whole lives? Sitting in the dark, my hands in my lap and my back straight with tension, I see a small, blue circle of light far away. Like a safety boat, in this sea of loneliness, trying to give me hope before I drown and know that it's already too late. Only that this death never ends. I don't forget, even after waking up. Even when I'm in the arms of my love, I remember this feeling and it lingers in my unconsciousness. I've been here, in the darkness, which some may call my mind, often enough, to know that the light will never come. There's no saving. No one who understands, no one to share. It will always stay unreachable, torturing me with its beauty and warmth, which I can only imagine. Sometimes, I ask myself "why", never finding an answer. Why me? Who chose my fate? On especially dark nights, I try not to fall asleep, to escape this place and never return, but my body won't listen. It forces me to return. My parents never believed me and already started to think of me as a crazy person a while ago. They were the only ones I've ever trusted with my secret, but where did that get me? I used to think, if there was only a single person on Earth who would understand, it wouldn't be as hurtful, but there's no one. I'm all alone, trapped. Every now and then, I'd hear a deep, dark voice. It would laugh at me, trying to make me feel even more miserable. What it didn't know, was that I wanted it to stay. It was the only thing that changed in here. In this hell of my own creation. I'd watch the light for what felt like hours, thinking about what it could be. Who could've put it there? Sometimes I thought it to flicker, but lastly, it was only my imagination.

One night, when the sky was clear and the stars were bright, I heard the voice again. It asked a bit sadly, almost like it felt pity for me: "What would you give to escape?"

Summary of the book:

I never understood humans, always trying to build relationships. Why do they do that?

I thought I was the only one thinking this way, but then I met you, right next to the dark woods under the cold moonshine. I followed you into your dark world, but I would have never guessed it to turn out this way. If you would ask me now if I would have changed anything, I would probably say no.

My dying wish finally came true.

"I am crazy. Or am I? If I say, I did it for you, does that change anything? Well, it doesn't matter anymore. It's done."
