*sigh*

I stare googley eyed at the handsome hunk of a man at the end of our dinner table ... Josh.

Well, you see, my mom and his mom went to high school together way back in the day and yup, you guessed it, they were best friends. Of course, it's only as cliche as can be that they are still best friends and their husbands became best friends so our families are pretty much inseparable. I have an older brother named Jonathan who's 25 but he moved to Thailand about a year ago to do some work and "get into a new culture" as he explained it. My moms best friend, Josh's mom, is named Jennifer, and Josh is their only kid or in her words, their pride and joy.

Honestly, my pride and joy too. I remember having a crush on Josh since I was in the 3rd grade learning how to write cursive and writing his name all over my notebook paper. Josh is a sweetheart. Honestly, he's really every girl's dream. He's a star athlete and although he shines in football he literally dabbles in everything. He primarily plays piano but any instrument he touches seems like his go to. He's funny, charming, kind, hard-working, just perfect honestly.

Ahhh, wait. The only thing is his temper. Most people get afraid when he gets really really mad because he sort of blacks out but let me tell you it is the sexiest thing ever to me.

Ugh, I'm drooling. Anyway, he's on my two do list. You know get into a good high school, check, go to college, well I just got in so I'm halfway checked, get a car, working on it, the list goes on. Honestly, everything on my list can be trashed if I could just have him.

See, he's perfect and all but for some reason just isn't into me. He definitely tolerates me and is sweet but well last time I texted him and told him I was attracted to me he basically said I was way too young and he sees me as a kid so ... poop. I was 16 at the time and he was 21 but so what.

"JASMINE!" my mother yells and I jump slightly in my chair.

"Yeah, mom?" I question trying to play it off.

"I said would you mind going to the game room with Josh while us grownups discuss some things," she says patting my shoulder. I look at Josh quickly before nodding my head and wiping my mouth with a napkin. We both go to the game room and I decide to turn on the tv and find something to watch. I decide on something called "Would You Rather" on Netflix as I get comfy with a blanket and Josh goes to play with the Pacman game.

Now I know what you're all thinking. Why am I sitting here when the man of my dreams is literally a few feet from me ... well ... I'm shy and honestly after hearing "I don't see you that way you're just a little girl" a few times you kind of just get over the humiliation.

****

It's about 30 minutes into the movie and its starting to get really good.

"what the fuck" I hear a faint whisper from somewhere behind me and I look up to see Josh starring at the screen in dismay.

"crazy huh," I say smirking and he nods making his way to the seat next to me. We both got pretty lost in the movie and once it was done we looked at each other.

"that was insane," he says raising his eyebrows.

"I know but the ending sucked, " I say shaking my head and looking for another movie.

"you know Jaz, this is nice. see." he says and I glance at him quickly with a questioning look while trying to hide my smile at his nickname for me since we were kids, "just hanging out. It's not so weird now because you're over me " he says and I chuckle slightly.

"sooo over you, it was just a crush I was young" I roll my eyes shaking my head smiling and chuckle a little, "this looks good," I say pressing play and trying to ignore what just happened. I sink into my chair a little more and get lost in my thoughts.

That kind of hurt ... what does he mean not so weird ... like was he really that uncomfortable. Oh gosh, he thought I was a weirdo.

I can't help but feel a stinging in my chest at the thought of me really saying It was just a crush. Yeah, sure it WAS, I was in 3rd grade what the hell did I know about really liking someone. But it's been 9 years since 3rd grade and my crush hasn't gone.

"we should hang more often, feel like this could actually be a friendship now," he says poking my arm with a smile before looking back at the screen.

"Yeah," I say faintly before looking back at the screen as well. I hate every bit of this right now. He doesn't know it but he just killed me. Might as well take what I can get ... a friendship.

This was a fairly shortish chapter but more of a filler to get the ball rolling.

I want you to get to know Jasmine's character and put everything into perspective but best believe the plot will deepen... mwahahaha.
