To Do List

CH 2

"oh my gosh man come on!" I whisper-yell frustrated as I look up at yet another building that was not what I was looking. I look down at the map in my hand and use my finger trying to forest the trail that I so clearly messed up again. I run my fingers through my hair frustratingly while tapping my foot.

"Need help?" I hear his deep voice causing my head to whip up.

"huh? oh yeah" I smile shyly no doubt my cheeks were filling with a rosy pink color. "what are you doing here?" I question while he looks down at my schedule.

"You know I'm doing my masters Jaz," Josh says in a 'duh' tone while nodding at me, "come with me your class is in my building," he says and I nod following him. The walk is short maybe 2 or 3 minutes and the entire time we were silent. I silently thanked the birds chirping and leaves that whisked through the wind for occasionally breaking the silence.

"Here we are, " he says as we approach the building. He hands me back my paper and waves with a smile as he walks in. How could I forget he went to school here. I shake the thought out of my head and enter the building looking for the classroom.

The rest of the evening went by quickly and before I knew it It was night time. I got out of my last around nine. I started making my way to the train station before seeing an all too familiar car pull up alongside me. The window rolls down and a smirking Josh is looking at me.

"need a ride?" he questions and I nod making my way to his passenger side. Just as I get in my phone goes off.

"Hey, mom" I answer bringing the phone to my ear, "oh you are...why so sudden...with dad too...okay...I can just stay home it's only down the street...but mom...fine...yes ill be home soon...okay...love you too" I said sighing as I hang up the phone.

"what? staying with us is so bad?" he asks mockingly while driving and I stare at him shocked.

"How'd you know?!" I question and he smiles.

"my mom just called me I was literally going to tell you but then you got the phone call" he explains and I nod. My parents were going out of town for a few days. Something about visiting my aunt and using a few days to vacation for their anniversary.

The drive home was quick as it was night time and there was no traffic. He pulls up to my driveway and puts the car in park.

"Need me to wait for you?" He asks looking at me with his mysterious eyes.

"Uh no," I say almost choking on my saliva, "I'll have my mom drop me off so I'll see you soon," I say smiling and getting out of his car.

I rush into the house and make my way to my parent's room.

"Moooooom" I yell and her door flies open.

"Hi, honey I packed some things for you. You can finish up we have to go in 30 minutes" she says smiling and hugging me.

"But mom why can't I just stay here" I plead.

"Just humor the mom in me okay," she says caressing my cheek, " I feel better knowing you aren't alone.

I sigh nodding and retreating to my room. My mom had packed most of the things I would need so I just threw a few more things and some necessities. I'm extremely lazy and didn't want to have to come here if I didn't need to.

Thirty minutes passed by quicker than I thought and before I knew it I was at Josh's front door with my parents.

His mom was sweet setting up the guest room for me and making sure it was clean. She literally was like a second mom to me so this still felt like a home away from home. Conveniently my room was right across from Josh's but I tried not to think about it.

Now, this ought to be interesting.

A small groan escapes my lips as I toss in bed. I slowly wake out of my sleep from the sound of giggles. I picked up my phone checking the time and it was nearly four in the morning. I groan hearing the sound of giggles again.

What is Josh's mom doing at this time? Her room is literally on the other side of the house. I get up and walk towards the door opening it but am met with nothing. Suddenly I hear snickering and my head snaps to Josh's door. I can see a faint light going in and out from the bottom crack of his door.

'Must be the tv' I think to myself. I decide to use the bathroom while I'm up. As I finish and leave the bathroom Josh's door slowly creeks open. My head snaps towards his door as I wait for him to come out. But instead, my eyes are met with dark grey ones. It's not Josh but some girl. Shortly after I see Josh.

I quickly looked away and rush to the room and shut the door. I jump into bed and close my eyes trying to find sleep again quickly.

I finally feel myself going in and out of sleep when I hear a small knock on my door.

"Mhmm," I say faintly and hear the door open.

"Jaz you up," he asks his voice much closer now.

I turn over still laying down and squint at him.

"Kind of," I say with a small voice. I hear him sigh. I'm trying to stay awake now as I feel the bed dip down and see his silhouette sitting beside me.

He sits there quietly for a while and the sleep begins to win me over. He caresses my hair gently and that's enough to put me over the edge.

"You're going to kill me Jaz" is the last thing I heard before going into a deep sleep.
