Chapter One

"No one saves us but ourselves.

No one can and no one may.

We ourselves must walk the path."

-Gautama Buddha

The young girl crept through the thick brush, balancing the line of the Freeland and the Lust pack. If she tripped over onto the territory, she would be caught and killed immediately by the guards looking more like a child's toy soldier rather than the beasts that lured underneath. She felt the watchful glares of the wolves' burn into her side even through the thick forest. She knew they were alert and waiting for her to step the tiniest bit over the border so they could fulfill the inner-beast's thirst for blood on its powerful muzzle.

The girl feared every kind of Supernatural, even more so being what she was. She wasn't any normal human, she was an unknown species among humanity but forbidden when it came to Supernaturals. Little did the humans know that different breeds lived among them, they were hiding in plain sight. Many species existed on this Earth such as common myths told by humans to scare one another like Vampires and Werewolves, but little did they know they lived so close. Vampires usually kept to themselves only coming out at night to feed and cause mischief to the humans and the werewolves lived in many of the forests, some mixing with society. Mermaids thrive in bodies of water, the most powerful deep in the ocean but some live close to humans. Fairies mostly live in fields and meadows because they are so small they often get passed as insects by the humans. But the girl running through the forest was none of the above. Supernaturals had a special name for what she is, a Winter Rose or to humans, an Angel.

Rain Spar was the only living Winter Rose since her mother and father were killed years before by the Hunt, a group of Supernaturals set on ridding the world of Winter Roses. Rain's mother, Cassiel Spar hid Rain when the attack happened while her husband, Abraham fended off the Hunt long enough so their daughter could be taken to safety. That was eight years ago, now twenty-one, Rain lived alone in the wilderness trying her best to stay away from all types of Supernatural beings, never in her life met another Winter Rose.

Rain ventured farther into the thick brush leading her deeper into the Freeland where she couldn't be harmed by other Supernaturals for what she was, but for survival. No matter where you go there will always be risks, some greater for others. From an early age, Rain learned that the world is cruel and unforgiving, everywhere you look someone or something wants to make sure you don't make it to your next obstacle with confidence. Things wear you down in life emotionally, mentally, and physically to test how strong you are, to see if you're fit to walk the Earth.

A vicious snarl whipped through the brush like wildfire and it was directed towards Rain. Rain froze and looked around her when she realized she had crossed the border into the pack neighboring the Lust pack, the Pride pack. The Pride pack was one of the most ruthless and powerful packs in the world. A shudder of fear rippled down my spine as the growls grew closer. Rain felt her bird-like wings tighten against her back in fear of exposure. A rust colored wolf emerged slowly from the vegetation, its charcoal eyes watching Rain as she tensed ready to fight if she had to. The wolf snarled menacingly, baring its canines to intimidate the girl but she didn't submit to him.

Rain knew she had to get away, eight years she had been so careful not to cross another Supernatural directly but standing in front of her a Werewolf ready to shred her to pieces if necessary. Not wanting to get torn limb-from-limb, Rain shrunk back from the wolf's powerful demeanor. The wolf shifted back into their human form and before Rain stood a copper-toned naked man. His amber eyes watched her questioningly as he took in Rain's waist-length white hair, her pale grey eyes, deathly pale complexion and petite figure. Rain shifted her weight uncomfortably from the nude man in front of her and tried figuring out her chances if she tried to bolt.
