sam says that bucky would have killed steve. he says that if steve hadn't kicked him off of the helicarrier and sixty feet into stone water, he says that if steve hadn't killed bucky, bucky would have killed steve. sam says that steve did what he had to.
steve doesn't listen. all he can hear is bucky screaming. the sound of things falling. the sound of the air cracking against his weight, the sound of bodies hitting the water and bones shattering.
once, natasha told steve that if you hit the water face down after an eighty foot drop, it's the same as hitting solid concrete.
