Chapter 1

~Zoe's POV~
"Are we there yet?" I asked my dad for the thousand time. I look at my bunny stuffed toy that I named Linny. I watched my dad steer the wheel every time he take a big turn on this gravel road.

"Yeah we're nearly there. Just five more minutes," he smiled and he noticed my worried expression on my face. "Don't worry we'll go home immediately after we got there. I'll just show you something and have a picnic afterwards. Sounds great?" He attempts to make me happy and he succeeded.

"Yay! It's been a long time since you took me there! You're always out of the house," I cheered and clapped my hands like a seal. "And it's my fifth birthday yesterday and you weren't there so you had to make up for it." I crossed my arms and grinned happily.

"I know sweetie, I know." He took my hands in his and I can see his eyes water.

"Dad, why're you crying?" I asked and put my other hand on top of his hand which is on top of my other hand.

"Nothing. We're here." He blinked back the tears and hopped out of the car and helped me get out of the car as well. He enveloped my hands in his hands and we crossed a field of green healthy grass towards a huge tree. It is the only tree I can see on this field. The tree is full of green leaves that you can barely see any branches of the tree. The field is also filled of bright orange flowers. On the horizon is the yellow sunset.

"This place is beautiful!" I remark as we trailed to the tree.

"Yes it is." My dad let go of my hand and led me to the tree. He held the shovel that is resting on the trunk of the tree. He started digging a rectangular small grave about a size of a shoe box. He threw the shovel away from us and reached for his bag. He pulled out a bottle with a letter rolled inside. I pretend to be playing around the grass with Linny but I can see what he is doing. He put the bottle to the mini grave. He called me and I obeyed.

"Dad, what is that?" I asked about the bottle.

"Baby, when the right time comes, or when you needed me the most, you must read this letter. Go here, dig for this, then read it." He said as he kneeled in front of me and his eyes began to water.

"Dad come on. Have you ever heard of the telephone? They're made for a reason. I can just call you when I need you or when I want to talk to you. You don't have to make me do these hard stuff. I am only five remember?" I huffed.

"Listen, Daddy might be gone for a long long time. I need you to be strong so your mother won't have any problems, okay? You need to be strong for her and your brother," he tucked strands of my hair behind my ears. My heart stops and my mind flashes scenes from movies where the little girl will be left by her father. This can't be it right?

"What do you mean?" My voice cracked at the end and my eyes began to water.

"Look, I'm gonna be gone for a long time for some reasons. Mommy's going to be there for you. Your brother will be there for you and he will be the one to protect you from anyone who wants to hurt you. And you'll be there, stand up straight and you'll be strong. You can do this," my dad pats my shoulders and a tear rolled down his left cheek.

"Daddy's not leaving because he doesn't love you. Because you know what? I love you, your brother and mom, the most in the world. I would do anything just to make you have the life you deserve to live that's why I am doing this," I began to sob as he continues.

"Right before I met your mom, I didn't gave a damn about my future. I didn't have plans to make a living, make money, or even make a family. But then she came, everything changed. She changed me for the better. The best and happiest chapter of my life was when we married and had you and your brother. Yes, it made things harder for us but we both coped with it. But it is harder than we thought. Look, daddy is sick and he's going to be away for a long time so that he will get wel-" I cut him off before he could continue.
