The sparkling shores of E'ssnnir stay in motion from dawn to dusk. The rhythmic beat of the waves hitting the coast enchants many tourists. The city is an economic powerhouse, busier than any other city in the nation of Rillec. Although the more polished streets are full of social clubs, breweries, pubs and casinos, the literal "fishy scent" of the port city doesn't disappear. Because the city's coastal waters have plenty of marine life, E'ssnir's economy relies heavily on the fishing industry. Opportunists can see that the city is a literal gold mine! They ignore the risks of business and entrepreneurship, desperate to pocket anything. The tactics of such people work most of the time, creating a social divide. While the hands of E'ssnnir's laboring citizens hungrily work to complete their tasks as fast as possible, the elites would much rather crinkle their finely powdered noses at the city's rotten perfume. They always have something much better to do every morning. When you're wealthy and powerful, admiring each other's ornate pearl jewelry, drinking imported tea, and sneering at those lower on the social ladder, are activities far more superior.

In the end, it doesn't really matter if a citizen's day is spent in misery or luxury...

If the person is dressed in rags for the rest of their life, or in satin, the end result is the always same.

Ever so slowly, the day transforms to night, making the city unrecognizable. As darkness sweeps over every dock, lamp-post, and street corner, the facade of the city melts away.

There are so many new ways to describe the aftermath of the sullen metamorphosis...

Notorious.

Vile.

Infamous.

Wicked.

Murderers, swindlers, and assaulters.

The waters of E'ssnnir are teeming with fish, while the land is teeming with criminals.

The glamorous gentry of the city are dishonest, greedy, and immoral for power and any money they can lay their hands on.

Those who are uninfluential are filled with bitter jealousy, hatred, and revenge.

Oh, how the blanket of night is the perfect medium, for it has been this way since the beginning of E'ssnnir.

It took only centuries for a catalyst to appear. For one person to realize the sins of the city and to have the courage to make a change. For one person to see that whatever the consequence, the true nature of people will never change. The figure uses this insight to slaughter sinners. When a bow & arrow shoots, or if a blade strikes, the citizens wonder.

Can such a killer be justified? Was justice served right? Whether the individual is deemed to be a hero or a villain, there is one thing for sure; the figure is not invincible. The catalyst cannot survive forever with the city's prestigious detectives.

Who is the anti-hero and, or savior? Everything else is a mystery, except that the figure goes by The Phantom.

Silent and calculating.

Invisible yet seen.
