*Authors note: This chapter was so much fun to write! You really get an up close of both characters, not gonna spoil anything though! Enjoy:)
I try to push to the back of my mind the fact that it's fucked up that I'm leaving my two friends here while they're drunk. They have no ride— well, I was their ride— but now they don't have one. Though I have a strong hatred for Gunner, and Ryder isn't my favorite person in the world, I can't help a small amount of guilt eating at me as I have Scarlett follow me to my car.
Maybe they can find a taxi home, or an Uber. Those shits are like five bucks to drive you across town, I'm sure one of them can figure it out. Then again, Gunner will be wasted out of his mind in about an hour, and I'm not too sure about Ryder, but he'll be too intoxicated to walk properly. I mentally shake my head at them as I enter my car.
Scarlett buckles herself in immediately. I notice her nervous gesture and laugh lightly.
"So, where are we going?" She asks me.
I shrug, "Wherever you want to go. Anywhere is better then here."
She nods her head in agreement. Maybe we are more alike then I thought.
"Are you hungry?" I ask.
"I can eat," she shrugs, and I put my car into drive and take off from the dump of a house.
I'm probably going to hear shit from them tomorrow. I can already hear their voices in my head. Why the fuck did you leave us there, man? We could've gotten arrested if the cops showed up. What kind of friend does that shit? I push their aggravating voices out of my head and focus on the road. I don't even consider them friends, so who cares? I just don't want to be bothered by them for leaving.
The music in my car is so low you can barely hear it. I recognize the voices behind my speaker, and I turn up the volume just enough to hear Scarlett if she speaks to me. What about now by Daughtry fills the air, and it's relaxing.
"You like Daughtry?" She asks with a surprised tone to her voice.
"Yeah, I do."
"So do I." She beams as she sings along to the words. What if you're making me, all that I was meant to be? The words echo around the car.
I usually sing along to his songs. Not that I'm any good, but I usually do anyway. Now that Scarlett is in my car, I wouldn't dare to even whisper the lyrics. She doesn't seem to care, though, because she's singing like she's the only person here. I kind of adore it. I watch her happily sing out the words as we drive through the dark streets.
After a few more minutes of making small talk about Daughtry and how bad she wants to see him in concert, I pull into a small diner. The parking lot is empty and I'm happy to pull into the first spot by the door.
She follows behind me as we enter the small building. Not many people are here, besides a few waitresses and someone to clean up the tables and mop the floors. Scarlett and I exchange the same 'maybe they're closing' look, just as a woman comes up to greet us. She tells us its no problem and to take our time eating as she seats us in a booth.
The lighting is dim, just enough to see her bright eyes. Soft music is playing in the background, and I'm scared to talk for everyone else in here to hear our conversation, thats how quiet it is.
Minutes go by as she tells me all about what she likes to eat, and what she doesn't. After about fifteen minutes, she makes it clear to me that her favorite food in the world is sushi, and she could eat it every day if it wasn't raw. I haven't really tried it myself, the idea of it seems disgusting. I gag at the thought of eating something raw.
