Michigan. Friday morning
Dylan checked his pocket. He had his wallet and his passport. He ventured outside.
His wheel suitcase rolled noisily on the pavement in the early dawn while his opposite shoulder carried his heavy bag and his fingers clenched around his sticks.
The city bus stop was a block away.
A pickup truck stopped by his side as Dylan waited at the sign.

Upstate New York. Friday morning
It was raining heavily when Sue and Jack walked to the house for breakfast.
Dan apologised when they came inside wet from their two minutes run under the rain. It was the only inconvenient from that room, it had no direct access to the inside. To Jack's opinion, it was a small price to pay for totally privacy with the woman he loved.
Her grandmother was having a good morning as well. She was waiting for them to have breakfast.
"So did you spend a good night?" she enquired innocently, a devilish glint flickering in her eyes.
Sue choked on her cereal and Jack bit his lip to refrain himself from laughing as another thought crossed his mind.
He stared openly at Granny, his curiosity unleashed. "Amazing night."
Sue dropped her spoon at his answer, staring incredulously at him, but Granny remained unnerved, her gaze holding his.
"You have a devious mind, Granny," Jack stated, shaking his head.
"You have no idea," commented Dan.
"Well thank you," granny answered smiling. "So, are you two closer to a date this morning than you were last night?"
"Granny!" exclaimed Sue.
Her grandmother couldn't have set her up to spend the night with Jack so they would get married sooner, could she?
"Give me one more night, Granny, and I should be able to convince her the benefits of being married largely outweigh a long engagement," declared Jack, winking at the old lady.
"Jack!" Sue exclaimed before gaping in total stupefaction at him, blushing profusely.
"I love you, sweetheart," he said, kissing her open mouth. Just when Jack felt her respond he pulled away. 'More later,' he signed only for her, displaying the Hudson's charm.
He would have fun appeasing the fury in her eyes as soon as they were alone, and he was tremendously looking forward to it.
Sue's exasperation faded as she looked at her grandmother. She was giggling like a schoolgirl, a radiant smile on her face, while Dan was looking tenderly at her. Jack's hand moved to Sue's thigh, caressing it under the table. It brought a smile to her lips as she finished her cereal.
Sue's parents arrived as they were drinking coffee talking about the lake, the currents, the nooks they could paddle through if they took the canoe out, something Jack had the intention of doing once the sky cleared.
If her mother, Carla, was surprised to see Jack, she didn't mention anything, hugging him to keep the pretence going.
Sue's dad, John, shook his hand, noticing Jack's protective stance over his daughter. He wondered how much was acting.
Michael's arrival, with his wife and two-year old son, cut John's speculation short. The little tyke was throwing a temper tantrum and his mother was fussing over him to stop while Michael was taking their luggage in. Jack offered to help, Michael accepting gratefully. Jack could almost sense the man's relief as he moved away from his very loud son.
