chapter 4

=•••=

it was as if the air had left their lungs, and the light in their heart had vanquished.

the brightness around them dimmed far down, into a dark void of blackness.

the whispers of the shouts of her name and another, echoed through their memory as the world faded.

all that once was a symphony; morphed into a monotone.

indescribable emotion overflew, as the tears splashed to the ground.

warmth was wrapped around her neck, almost as if it were the familiar flames that belonged to one she had once knew.

her breath was caught in the back of her throat, and it ached to be released. ached to take in.

sharpness pierced and sliced the soft tissue that remained to cover the entirety of her insides. warmth drizzled from the torn and impaled skin.

lips parting, a voice in attempt to be released in a call out; when nothing but breathless mourns flicked off the tip of her tongue.

she was lost, and impassive. she felt nothing, and no other. the warmth had disappeared, and she was cold once more.

golden brown eyes rolled to the back of her head; vision blurring and darkening. and all remained to be quiet—

once more.

"no.." wendy muttered, the smalls of her hands hovering over her parted lips, her eyes tracing over the wreck that the dragon slayer had placed upon the fairytail guild. tables were collapsed in; benches and stools scattered in uneven and distributed piles. the floorboards had been seared in flames, and beams that had stretched across the ceiling and from the ground to the roof had been burnt; lined with red embers: still hot.

rubble, dust, and debris sugarcoated the walls and floors, and the fairytail guild-mates were indeed covered head-to-toe in the muck. erza had equipped a sword by her side; dug into the crevices of the wooded floors for balance, her normal attire of armor resting atop her shoulders. she had been leaning on her right leg; her left ankle seeming injured.

gray had propped himself up on his elbow, his left hand clutching a wound that had penetrated severely through his right shoulder, and juvia sat closely beside him, inspecting his wound with concern. she hadn't been as injured, but she didn't come out of the fight unscathed. she, along with the rest of the fairytail-guildmates, had various cuts and bruises lining their arms and legs; an overwhelming exhaustion and disturbance filled the air. the atmosphere was tense and silent, other than the soft groans and hisses of pain from the people of the not-so-mighty mage guild. as the dust that had been afloat in the air finally settled, happy flew in through the massive opening in the side of the guildhall; where natsu had came in with a massive explosion.

happy hadn't arrived in time.

as the blue feline dropped to the ground, he himself had a chance to search around the guild. seeing his friends hurt, gave the cat a tight and painful feeling in his chest. "lucy.." he whimpered, tears filling his eyes. "everyone.. i was too late.."

hearing the familiar voice of the dragon slayers companion, carla raised her head, her right eye clenched shut. "happy.." she whispered to herself, her ears lowering slowly at the sight of her comrade's pained and despaired facial expressions. over the wavering silence of the broken fairytail guild, metal boots had clicked against the wood slowly, and the sound of a sharp object being pressed into the ground and pulled up again repeatedly had been heard, and through teary eyes, happy raised his head. the redhead requip mage had been making way towards the helpless feline, pain etched onto her features as she limped on. "happy." she said through her teeth, a groan following pursuit, and she fell to her knees.
