There I sat. Staring at my Starbucks coffee trying to make up my mind, I let out a sigh. It seemed like three seconds after the bell that rings when someone enters the store rang.
It was a beautiful girl with long dirty blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. Her skin looked darker then it should, probably because it was the beginning of July.
There was a man working there. His name tag said Brian. I'm guessing he knew her because the minute she walked in the door he shouted, "Hey! Mary!", she said hi quietly and started to order. When she looked right at me weirdly I noticed I had been staring at her the whole time. I smiled and looked away quickly hoping no one else saw it.
She made her way over near my table, but I was too focused on my own problems to pay attention. I had a big decision to make and limited time to deal with it.
When I looked at the clock to see what time it was I didn't see a clock. I saw Mary. She looked at me surprised. Probably because I looked surprised.
She said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry."
I put my hand on her arm and said, "No, you can stay."
She turned out to be the nicest, funniest, and perfectest girl I had ever met. We talked for so long I forgot what time it was.
We mostly talked about her which helped because it distracted me from my own problem.
She talked about her mom and dad splitting up, and how her sister helped her through the whole thing.
Brian came over to ask if she needed anything. She said no and when he left she looked at me with cross eyes.
"That guy has asked me out thirteen times."
"Thirteen?"
"Yeah, most guys around here ask me out. Your the only one who hasn't yet. what's keeping Conner Franta from asking Mary Brooke's on a date?"
I looked up at the clock and noticed it was ten past three.
"I have a meeting with the guys! I'm really sorry I have to go!"
"Oh ok, when will I see you again?"
"Here." I slipped her a price of paper with my number on it.
"Just in case that date happens."
And then I was gone.
