My parents are hardworking but I know that they prioritise their work over my brother and I. My mum works as a finance director of a really big company and my dad works as a lawyer. When my brother was born they seemed to work more and more until I ended up becoming a sort of parent to my brother, Nathan who is four years younger than me. I tried to explain why they weren't around a lot of the time but he was always too young and naive to truly understand.
It was two years after I became nine that they divorced. It turned out they had both been sleeping with other people and that they both said they were working a lot as an excuse so that they could go and meet their new partners. What they didn't realise is how much it had affected their neglected children. During the seven years I was kidnapped I wondered whether they missed me or even thought about how I was feeling. They probably had to act like they loved me for the news and publicity but inside I knew that they didn't truly love me or Nathan. I wonder if they ever felt guilty for not loving us more or if they regretted going off with other people. Probably not. They both were selfish, cold hearted people.
