"ever considered that your horrendous burps may just be the reason as to why you can't get a boyfriend?" erik chuckled, taking a sip of his organic pineapple juice while colleen laughed at the sound of the belch that had just escaped her lips and wafted straight into her best friend's face.
colleen smiled and gulped down the remainder of the can of coke she was drinking, the cause of her burp in the first place.
"shut up stocklin, did you ever consider that your horrible insults may be the reason why YOU can't get a girlfriend?" colleen fired back, sticking her tongue out at a now 'shocked' erik.
"wow colleen. say whatever you want but talk about my insults in such a way? not cool." erik joked, clutching his heart like it had just been torn in half.
"be quiet and get me another one of those cupcakes."
"anything for you 'princess' " erik emphasised the last word, dramatically bowing down to her while reaching over the marble counter to grab a chocolate cupcake from the nearly empty box, sent to colleen by her publisher.
he handed her the cupcake and she tore off the wrapper, throwing it down in front of her while she shoved the whole cupcake into her mouth.
"you're so gross." erik watched as she eagerly chewed the cake, acting like she hadn't eaten in weeks.
"thank you." colleen said, her mouth full of half chewed triple chocolate cupcake.
erik waited until colleen finished chewing until he spoke up again.
"now listen colleen. i know this will probably sound foreign to you. but have you ever heard of this thing? it's called fruit." erik threw an apple to her as colleen caught it in one hand. the most sports she had done in... well, forever.
"SHUT UP" colleen semi yelled, walking past her best friend and slapping him on his chest. she slumped onto the couch and turned on the tv. "you coming?" she asked erik, who was still leaning against the counter in her kitchen, staring at her.
"oh yeah, sorry." he replied, walking over and sitting next to colleen on the creme coloured couch that was covered in cat and dog hair. "what are we watching?" he asked as colleen rested her head in his lap, looking up at him.
"i dunno. i saw an ad for a documentary that's supposed to be good. i'm not sure if it's on netflix though."
"it's fine if it's not. we can just watch it on one of those illegal movies watching sites."
"wow how rebellious." colleen replied sarcastically, while reaching up and wiping a bit of icing from the corner of his mouth and smiling. erik blushed slightly and smiled down at her.
"so, um, what was the name of this documentary?" he asked, snapping out of his trance.
"ummmmmm... wait never mind let's just watch something else. i forgot the name." colleen giggled.
"you're cute." erik smiled
"i know" colleen replied, flipping her hair as she sat up to reach the grey blanket sitting in front of her.
"you have chocolate in your hair." erik sighed as he picked it out for her and started playing with her brown curls.
"my hair has lots of things hiding in it. it's like a forest."
"you can say that again." he agreed while pulling a broken hair tie from the depths of her curls and throwing it onto the coffee table. colleen hummed the tune of a random song she had just made up as she flicked through the many movies on netflix. after many minutes of argument about whether they should watch the spongebob movie (erik's pick) or grease, they finally settled on grease. colleen quickly ran over to the light switch and flicked it off, then she proceeded to sprint back to the comfort of erik. and the soft grey blanket. once again, she laid her head in erik's lap and turned her attention to the tv. a soft smile appeared on her face when she felt erik's hands reattach themselves to her hair, and she held daisy close to her while gus played with a very annoying toy somewhere in the kitchen behind them.
this was a typical night for colleen and erik. with their busy schedules, night time is pretty much the only time they have to hang out. whether that means hanging out for only an hour or having a full sleepover.
erik felt colleens breathing slow down. soon after, he heard soft snores coming from his best friend. and... crush. although he would never tell a single soul. in fact, he hadn't really come to terms with the fact that he secretly wanted to spend the rest of his life with this perfect woman. he grabbed the remote that was being held loosely in colleen's hand and switched the tv off. he slowly picked colleen up and carried her up the staircase to her bedroom. he switched the light on and laid her down on the pink bed sheets that he had picked out for her. he tucked her in under the soft comforter and looked at his watch. 12:34am. shit. he should probably get home, even though it was a friday and he didn't have work the next day. he smiled down at colleen one more time before turning to leave. suddenly he felt a soft hand grab his.
"erik wait." colleen softly whispered. "don't leave. please."
erik smiled and turned back round to face colleen. "can't be without me for more than 2 seconds huh?" he joked.
"no i'm just scared of the dark." she smiled, still holding onto his hand and rubbing it slightly with her thumb.
erik walked to colleens walk in wardrobe and grabbed one of the pairs of sweatpants that he keeps at her house. he took his shirt off and changed into the black sweatpants. when he walked back into colleen's room, she had changed into a reindeer onesie. even though it sure as hell was not december.
"i like your onesie." erik smiled as he climbed into bed next to colleen. "it's very soft." he pulled her into him and they laid with each other.
"goodnight stocklin." colleen laughed.
"night ballinger. love you."
"love you too."
