Boss was in a suit and tie and was terrified when he opened the door, "Thank goodness it's just you! Margot is going over to pick up Aaron from the hotel and left me to finish cooking dinner."
"Thanks?" I replied and walked in.
"Skimpy, I'm losing it. I can't think!" Boss flopped around trying to redo his tie.
I stepped toward him, "You are gonna do great!" I smiled and finished tying this tie.
"Thank you, Skimpy," George smiled.
"Any time," I said.
A knock came on the door.
"That must be them!" George ran to the door. And there he was. Aaron stood behind his mother in the doorway. He was so effortlessly cute. Ugh, why do I do this to myself?
"Hey guys! Margot, Aaron, let me take your coats," George has never been so nice to anyone. I stood back and watched the show.
Aaron walked in and smiled at me, I politely smiled back. He wakes over to me and handed the bag he was holding to me, "Do you know where I should put this?" He asked.
"I don't know any more than you, Bos— um, George rarely invites me over," I replied.
"Oh, here Aaron, I can take that off of you," George scurried over to us.
Margot noticed my presence, "What a lovely young lady you are, you must be?" I smiled then realized she expected an answer. My cover was blown. I glanced at Aaron and George, they both we busy helping with dinner.
I leaned in and replied in a hushed tone, "Ivy. Ivy Cia." I quickly looked back at the boys and they both didn't hear me.
"What a lovely name. My great niece has the same name!" Margot shook my hand.
Aaron walked down carrying food, "C'mon help me set the table." He gestured to me and I walked over to the kitchen behind Aaron.
"So, what did my mom tell you this time?" Aaron asked.
I grabbed the mashed potatoes, "What do you mean? She's a lovely lady."
"Yeah, but, she always has a separate agenda. What did she tell you to do this time?" Aaron put a spoon in the gravy.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. She just asked for my name and I told her," I smiled to see his face. He was obviously mad.
"My mom knows your name? What was her reaction when she found out it was Skimpy?" He joked.
"She was more appalled to know it started from her husband's mouth," I played along.
Aaron put down a salad bowl, "Wait, you actually told her your name was Skimpy?"
Margot overheard the last word of Aaron's sentence and thumped him upside the head, "Young boy, you never talk to a lady like that!"
"Mom! It was a completely different context!" Aaron rubbed his head.
"It is not okay under any circumstances! Now go wash up for dinner," Margot yanked him away and leaned towards me, "I am so sorry Ivy." She held my hand and then took her seat at the head of the table. Aaron emerged from the bathroom and took a seat across from me. George came from the kitchen with a delicious roasted turkey.
"Wow George, that is a beautiful turkey!" I commented politely.
"So are you," Aaron mumbled underneath his breath and I looked over to him, he didn't make eye contact, but he was smiling.
