" Ginger hurry up or were gonna be late!"

" I'm coming mom, and remember what I said no embarrassing names while we're there OK?"

For my 16th birthday my mother decided it was a great time to go on a cruise. I hate boats as it is but I decided to go to make my mom happy. This was going to be really expensive because my mom is a single mom working at some run down coffee shop down the street. My dad left us when I was only 2 and he took all the money we had.

We live in a beautiful small house and live a normal happy life any teen girl could want. Me and my mom lived simple lives and this was the biggest thing I had ever gotten as a present.

I started walking towards the front door with a suit case filled with cloths, a stuffed animal under my arm that I had since I was 5 and a backpack with some books inside. Before I could call to my mom that I was ready the world around me started to shake. In a moment of panic I froze in terror as I quickly realized that an earthquake was taking place. Only seconds later I felt a shove and knew my mom was pushing me out the door to some safety.

Everything became slow motion. The ceiling started to chip and fall down, the door frame was cracking apart, and I found the floor under me was starting to give weigh. I grabbed my moms hand and jumped for the door. Hitting the cement felt like a car had hit me, but what felt worse was my empty hand.....I had lost my mother in the chaos.

I tried to pull myself up to search through the rubble and find her but my head was spinning. Very stupidly I crawled over and moved some wood away. My world was spinning and slowly going dark and with the last ounce of energy I pulled a plank out of the way and the limp hand of my mom. I collapsed holding her hand and found my mind go blank and my world dark.
