It was hard to sleep. I couldn't. The sounds of mortar shells hitting the ground, the sound of gunfire in the distance, the screaming of fellow soldiers getting shot at.
How am I supposed to sleep with all this noise? I thought.
It was the middle of the night and the war was still going strong.
I should probably introduce myself shouldn't I? My name is Lucas. I'm an infantry soldier for the US Army. A private. I had literally just got out of boot camp and was given notice that I'm being deployed. I had to say goodbye to my family and friends. Now I've been here in Korea for almost a year. The North Korean leader had declared war on us.
"HELP" I heard from just outside my tent.
I ran outside with my M16 rifle. What I saw was gruesome. My friend bleeding out from a gunshot wound to the chest.
"Luke... Say goodbye to my family for me..."
"NO! I'm not gonna let you die Sarge!"
"Welcome to war son..."
His eyes shut and his body went limp. The war had just started.
